Noel's angel

i know how u feel. i had a big arguement about abortion and the Church with my friends and they all ganged up on me. They tell eevryone that theyre really devout Catholics and are involved in the parish a lot, then they go and start condemning the Church. So i asked them why theyre still in the Church and they came up with lame excuses like "because i believe in God", i pointed out that u dont have to be a member of the Catholic Church to believe in God, then one of the others said that its because she was brought up in the Catholic faith, but i said ur nearly 18, if u dont agree with the Church's teachings, leave, but she told me that i was behaving like a child and i should accept that she takes what she wants from the Church and leaves the rest. Phew, im glad i got that off my chest......

I hope you all will pardon me if I just blink with rainbow colored hearts popping around my head.

:hearts:

Catholic women (and girls) give me hope here on Phatmass...don't go extinct, you dying breed! Never give up your faith!

Otherwise the hearts will all go pop and I'll just look like this...

she takes what she wants from the Church
I always thought we were supposed to give to the Church. Just another example of the "me first" mentality that has prevaded our society.

Noel's angel

exactly, i couldnt believe what she was saying. she acts like shes this "holier than thou" person with high moral standards, then says something like that. on the topic of pre marital sex, she said, " u dont know what will happen, u just go with the flow", i nearly took a fit, it took all my patience not to lose my reason with her

I can understand their positions. I mean it's not like these are easy issues and it can be hard to follow what the church believes. And you shouldn't believe it because it's what the church believes you should believe in it because you believe in the church. Some people (inculding me) need to make these decisons on their own and not just accepting what the church says. The best thing you can do is present them with the facts and why the church's postion makes sense because telling them they're wrong isn't gonna change their opinions.
All you can do is show them the church's reasons for their position and pray for them. With time they might change postions, hey it's happened to me.

i have been praying for them, its just their hypocracy that annoys me, they claim to represnt the Church and are involved a lot with the parish, but then they go and basically slag off the church, i realise they need to form their own opinions, but they shouldnt be so hypocritical

Disclaimer: Theologians, correct me if I'm wrong...this is my reply to Shelly, but I defer to the Church where I am in error.

The Catholic Church is a communion. It is the Communion of Saints. And that implies unity of belief. If you culpably doubt a Church teaching, you have broken that communion. We are one, heart, mind, body and soul, in communion with the Church.
