hopeful1
*gives big hug to laura* I'm sooo sorry you had to go through that, that was terrible of them to pick on you like that. I can definately relate to what you feel. Please know that i'm proud of you for standing up for your faith, because even if you were crying in front of them, you still have more courage than i would have had. That is awesome. Please pray for your 'friends', especially the one that said the goat comment and the ones that were really badgering you. I know i will.
Lil Red
As I've said before...somebody very dear to me had an abortion, and I was one of many people encouraging her. The baby would be 8 today. I found out in March that she was going to name the baby after me. And she is permenantly scarred, although perhaps she does not realize to what extent. Prayers for your friends, Hughey. Some people just have to learn the hard way. (I was one such person). Hopefully they will learn.
i am so sorry for you and your friend. ironmonk
So tonight was homecoming (the game) and I went with my group to a small tex-mex restaurant by the school. We were sitting at the table having a nice dinner when someone brought up the elections. We went from who won the debates to not being able to be a liberal Catholic (which i denied to an extent) and then it came to agreeing with abortion and Catholicism. I said it's not possible to be Catholic and support abortion. They of course all turned on me and started telling me how abortion was just fine and that I was messed up in the head for thinking otherwise. Anyway, it was all fine, I was able to talk rationally about it until my friend, who is supposed to be Catholic, chimed in. She said this to me: "If we can kill baby goats which have a mental capacity that exceeds that of a newborn baby then why can't we kill the babies too?" ((Actually by this point i was being yelled at)) I cried. I couldn't help it. I did. I don't know if anyone noticed but I was so shocked by what she was saying. I couldn't believe my ears!! The girl next to her leaned over and goes "yeah and I heard babies taste better anyway." I wanted so badly to just get up and leave right then but I stayed and told them how wrong it was that they were saying these things. Another girl at the table said to the whole group, "Yeah! and ask her about homosexuality and capital punishment and masturbation and all that other stuff." So of course someone said that Catholics hate homosexuals. I told them it wasn't true that we just didn't believe in having homosexual relations. So this girl sitting a few seats down yells in my face, "You can't do that!! You can't just not have sex!! That's denying who you are!!" to which i replied, "No, its not denying who you are. It's accepting it and choosing to do the right thing. It's choosing NOT to sin." At this point the girl was like "everyone just stop talking about it she obviously can't control herself." I started to get up to leave and she was like "just sit down and shut up its not a big deal." I was so angry and so hurt. I can't believe the things I heard from those people!! I am really hurt. I am. They knew how I felt and they did it to get to me but it does bother me even more because of the awful things they said about babies. I cried and (I'm not admitting that:) I'm crying now. How can people say such things?!?!
Sorry about the way it went... I wish I was there to help you out. I think you handled it well. I would like to ask them if we can kill babies, then why can't we kill them? If we can kill an innocent human life, then why can't we go around killing any teenager that is a bad kid? What's wrong with it? People don't know how to think or are too lazy to think... many seem like they want to be fed what to believe from Hollywood. A big "Thank you" to the parents that let the TV raise your children. Taking everything evil at face value without double checking. I think we can thank the liberals in the world for the devaluing of life, and equating who we are to the urges of our loins... I can't imagine that so many people live such shallow and useless lives. Murder should no longer be a crime based on their logic, because it is nothing more than abortion, after the fact. They are geniuses. Such geniuses. Hence why I can't stand democrat liberals. They are the fall of this country. They will bring the wrath. The only good thing about them is that they will not reproduce as fast as God fearing conservatives, because the dem libs kill their young. mmmerf
hugheyforlife, a couple of thoughts - 1. at the 'sit down and shut up' remark, I would have lost it. I would have said something along the lines of 'If my discomfort makes you uncomfortable, that's your problem. I am leaving because I don't wish to keep company with you.' thrown money on the table to pay for my food, and walked out. As Churchill said, 'There are some things up with which I will not put'. 2. The comments at your table made it clear that this was not an argument you were going to win - hearts had already been hardened. You don't need to defend your faith to the likes of these. It's not wrong to walk away - indeed, that seems to me to be 'kicking the dust off your sandals' as you leave kind of behaviour. 3. Congrats, you're suffering injustice for the sake of the name. 4. I only wish more Catholics would lose their composure when confronted with avid supporters of abortion. I wanted them to hear that what they were saying was wrong. If I had left they all would have laughed and joked and thought that they were cool for doing such things. They would have assumed that my arguments were invalid and that I couldn't handle their responses. Just my thought at the time. 2: SOME hearts had been hardened. I still have faith in at least one of them. I know that she didn't mean it in her heart. I am talking about the one that made the goat comment. It was wrong but I believe that she can change. She needs to open up to her faith a lot more than she has!! I feel like she is almost resentful towards it. I am not sure why yet. I don't want to give up on her. She is a generally good kid but her words would make you think otherwise!! 3 & 4 - Thanks. I appreciate the support.
