Enda
FoxNews Article Whoa. Helen used to be a pretty quite volocano, now it's erupting every 20 years or so. Hopefully this won't wind up being as bad as the 1980 eruption... Thy Geekdom Come
I just heard on FoxNews a couple days ago that they thought this would happen again soon. Happened sooner than I thought. Huh...

Guest T-Bone
Cool! I still have ash from the 1980 one. Glad it wasn't too awful big this time!
Thy Geekdom Come
The lady on FoxNews said that if the 1980 one was an elephant, this one would be a Chihuahua.

Guest T-Bone
Hopefully this will release pressure on the South Sister, and not aggrivate things.
haha I live in Fort Walton Beach. I can't remember how I got some of the ash. My mom gave it to me. It might have come from a relative or friend who traveled there, but the only places I've been to west of the Mississippi River are Colorado, San Antonio and Las Vegas. Ash Wednesday
Trust me, this was a burp or a spider bark compared to the deafening roar that was 1980. This was a small eruption, that was a mountain blowing its whole top and side out. I was born in Washington and we were right in the thick of the ash back then. I remember my dad having to ride a bike because the cars and roads were done for. I was pretty young at the time but I remember him coming home from work later that week on his bicycle, and wearing a doctor's mask. Apparently our family was driving home from Mass (this happened on a Sunday) when my dad got out of the car and noticed it was raining ash.
