Good stuff Theotekos, I won't debate as I don't know anything about it(actually this was the first good argument I've seen either way) but I agree with you no this one. I read the first one and yeah... Anyways, it's probably just because my mom used to be involved with the occult(as a teen, not now, now a very strong Catholic) and she was really uncomfortable with them. But it's just an opinions either way, I guess. Still good work on finding that stuff.
I have questions, Theoketos. What you have just said; do you mean that Lord of the Rings is bad for us to read too? And every computer or video game invilving magic bad to play (for that reason, obviously)?

I'm pretty confused about the whole thing. Harry Potter is only a miniscule portion of all that is appealing and involves magic these days. Does that mean those are bad too? I've never read any of the potter books (I don't think I need to explain my reasons ;)), but I've played plenty of games and such that have magic in them. And again, what about LOTR?

Makes me wonder....
Pretend magic = not bad

Thus LoTR and Narnia (which have magic but not occult) good.

Real Magic from the Devil = bad

Thus Harry Potter not good, because they have the occult.

I love Sci-fi (unless it contains immoral trash), Fantasy, LoTR, EVERYTHING by CS Lewis, Star Wars, Star Trek, Star gate, Astronomy, etc.

Occult is none of these^

However, I am aware that the Devil is like a prowiling Lion ready to devour.

Please read the Whole first post.

I know it is long but it addresses every you all have said.

I love you all dearly!
Harry Potter also contains very Christian moral doctrine, especially that there is absolute truth, absolute morality, a clear divide between good and evil, and the true nature of friendship.
I do not dispute this point.

Let me clear something up, it was only when I was going to make a track to defend Harry Potter did I jump the fence.

It was because Harry makes that wonderful suppostition that there is more then power, but really good and evil, which made me think that the series is great.

It is well written, can teach virtue, has wonderful symbolism, which may or may not be explicitly Christian.

But the End does not Justify the Means, espcially when the Occult is as bad and evil and tempting and sneaky as it is.

Er um sorry about the yelling.

I was once involved in the occult, as was my mom, during, not coincidently the worst part of our lives. However, throught the Grace of God, the prayers of the Church, and the (I am sure of it) Direct assistance of my Gaurdian Angel, I give right praise to God (orthodoxy) and cling to the cross.

I thought becuase the occult is (I see now thinly) disguised or dumbed down is was not a big deal, because the rest of the stuff is so good.

Please be aware this is I believe grave matter. The Devil is a big deal, he seeks to perish the imperishable.

At the same we are not fear him, becuase the Cross that Jesus bore defeated death!

Ave Maria,

James III
Who is Ralph?
I am.

She always calls my Ralph instead of Raph, Raphael, or Micah.

Like I said, I'd only reply to clarify. :P
