Iacobus
TrendMicro has a free online virus scan. Also *first* try running LavaSoft's Ad-Aware SE. It is faster and often it is some spyware and not a virus. Just an idea.

Theologian in Training
Some questions to help troubleshoot What version of Windows? Have you installed any of the Service Packs? What version of IE are you using? Have you recently installed anything? Try fixing your registry with registry mechanic http://www.winguides.com/regmech/ It is not freeware but you have a trial period.
