Wow, that's pretty big. But it changes nothing ... friends come in all shapes and sizes.

How long have you been diagnosed? Do you have to take meds?

it's been seven years now. I do take meds. I live a pretty normal life other than some side effects from the medicine...but it beats the alternative! :D

Seven years -- that's a long time. I did some quick research and a couple of sites said schizophrenia often shows up in young people in their prime.

So will you have to take medications the rest of your life, or is it something that eventually can be healed?

it depends on who you ask. My brother is a pharmacist and he told me about a doctor named Breggin who advocates a "psychosocial" approach to psychiatry, in which medicine is barely used at all. My brother says that most doctors fear liability, and so my doctor might not be honest with me. :)

The medicines are pretty wicked, even though they're better than they used to be. I feel thankful that I have my sanity though. :)

Aww, hun... I'm sorry to hear that you've had to suffer like this. Fairly severe schizophrenia and it's comorbid pal Bipolar Disorder run in my family.

Of course I'll still be your friend... you're still the way cool person you were before you told us this. In fact, you seem even cooler for having the courage to share this.

I'll be praying for you, Sanvean. This is our cross, but Jesus knows it's not too much. and St. Dymphna is praying for us. :)
