Theologian in Training
I was inspired by the original Simpsons quote thread to start another thread that quotes prayers used in The Simpsons...Enjoy and add Ned: Why me, Lord? Where have I gone wrong? I've always been nice to people. I don't drink or dance or swear. I've even kept Kosher just to be on the safe side. I've done everything the bible says, even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff. Homer: Dear Lord, the gods have been good to me and I am thankful. For the first time in my life everything is absolutely perfect the way it is. So here's the deal: you freeze everything as it is and I won't ask for anything more. If that is OK, please give me absolutely no sign. [pause] OK, deal. In gratitude, I present you this offering of cookies and milk. If you want me to eat them for you, please give me no sign. [pause] Thy will be done." [eats food]. When trying a new hair-restoring product Homer prays: "Dear God, give the bald guy a break. Amen Bart: Are you there, God? It's me, Bart Simpson. I know I never paid too much attention in church, but I could really use some of that good stuff now. I'm...afraid. I'm afraid some weirdo's got my soul and I don't know what they're doing to it! I just want it back. Please? [starts to cry] I hope you can hear this. Homer: Oh Lord, on this blessed day, we thank Thee for giving our family one more crack at togetherness. All: Amen.

Theologian in Training
I wish the Simpsons weren't anti-catholic.
I would ask you to make a Simpsons debate thread at the debate table. This thread as well as the other is for quotes. God Bless

BLAZEr
The problem with "just saying" is that you get people like me who say "you're wrong" but anyway, I'm going to ignore you for the time being. I really think there is something to Homer's prayer . . . I just makes me think that it's a totally human prayer, one that the guy next door would pray who deep down has a religious sense and a desire for God but is also just an average Joe who doesn't understand him to well becuase he's busy thinking about football during Sunday service . . .
Indeed. Also, William Dembski, author of "Intelligent Design" uses Homer's prayer as a means of demonstrating some of the errors that those who discount the idea of intelligent design fall into. Perhaps, I should change this thread to Simpsons and religon rather than prayer, since the only prayers are those I posted. God Bless

Enda
You're kidding here, right? I mean, you don't really see anything profoundly theological in these prayers do you? They're either just wrong or humorous.
Ned: Why me, Lord? Where have I gone wrong? I've always been nice to people. I don't drink or dance or swear.
Homer: Oh Lord, on this blessed day, we thank Thee for giving our family one more crack at togetherness. All: Amen.
Ok, that one made me laugh I have to admit, only because that might as well be my family's prayer. Still, nothing of any deep signfigance. The only thing these prayers inspire to do is laugh, not meditate upon their deep theological signfigance since they, um, have none. Honestly, have you read any Catholic prayers or any approved prayers by any religion at all? Bottom line: These prayers are funny, yes. Profound? No. It's the Simpson's... DemonSlayer
When was he ever Catholic? He's always been protestant, and so are The Simpsons (except Lisa) and Flanders.
Hmmm...I think you may have missed the reason for my posting this. I did make a rather lengthy explanation over in the Debate Table if you care to look. As to the particular questions/insults I would say: I did not make the argument from intelligent design, rather William Dembski did. I merely made reference to it as an example to elucidate on the point that Blazer brought up. I am aware that they do not have theological significance on the surface, but any man's struggle with God does presuppose some theological invesitagation and reflection. I really hope you do not think I actually meditate upon these prayers. I find the Simpsons as something of a cultural icon seeing as they have embedded themselves within society and so I think many find that they relate to the prayers spoken by The Simpsons as you demonstrated yourself. As to your inquiry about whether or not I know of any Catholic prayers or those of other religons, you could say that I know a few.
