There was also the issue of papal authority, Caesaropapism (the church-state relations in the Byzantine empire), and for awhile after 1054 there was a reunion. But it was ultimately politics, as after the Ottoman Turks conquered Constantinople they pressured the Eastern churches to not be in union with Rome. Then came fragmentation along national lines.
