Isn't 4 years a long time to be deployed overseas?

4 years is a long time to be deployed overseas -- my brother was only gone for a year, and I thought that was about normal.

Wow, though, that's big changes for you guys ...

Yes we have to move to Japan! I can't believe it. But it's not a deployment. It would be a deployment if he were going overseas temporarily for the war or something, but coming back here. It's a tour, which means he is permanently changing his duty station (base). Normally, a tour is a year or two. But since it's an accompanied tour--meaning David and I get to go with him--it's four years. He actually had to extend his enlistment to go.

I would appreciate your prayers. I just don't know what to do. On the one hand, I'm excited. It's a neat opportunity that a lot of people don't get. Everyone we've talked to who has been stationed at Yokota AB has loved it there. It's an interesting culture, and an opportunity to make a lot of money, since they pay you a lot for going there. On the other hand--um, it's JAPAN! On the other side of the world! They're Buddhist over there, very few Christians. Guess how many times in 4 years I will get to see my family? I have never been this far from them. And it's a 20 hour flight! I'm scared of flying!!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhh.....

Hey that is so cool! I lived in Okinawa for 3 years. It was awesome!!
Th 20 hour flight is uneventful and you will probably sleep the whole way. Don't be scared! There was a very large Catholic community in Okinawa and I believe there is one on the Mainland too. There is a surprising number of Catholic and Christian japanese. Alot of what they do is tradition from the older days. Just for fun! In my experience The Japanese were very nice to us. The Okinawans are like bestfriends when they find out you are American! The food there is awesome!! If you are allergic to MSG(Monosodium Glutamate), everytime you go out to eat you need to ask about that. My Mom is and the Soba Houses especially have alot of MSG. She forgot to ask once at a Soba House. She drove home with a BIG headache! You should not need to worry. Japan is one of the most beautiful places in the world. When you get the chance to travel around Space A, visit Okinawa(one of the islands)Tokyo and Misawa. They are really cool and the only places I have been to in the Nation of Japan. Oh! When you go to Okinawa, visit Shurijo Castle, Naha Falls, Shiji Falls(if you can fin it), Mission Beach, White Beach, kadena AFB if you want, and Camp Courtney and McTereous(sp?). We always called it McTee. There was alot more but I can only remember so much right now. :P
I will pray for you!
