Thy Geekdom Come
How can they put stupid people on the task of writing physics textbooks? How can anyone be stupid enough to write a physics textbook intended and "specially designed" for people who are merely trying to get a science requirement and know little about physics and are not majoring in physics, and not put a GLOSSARY IN THE BACK?!!!
Sojourner
That's ridiculous. I hate physics. And there are lots of stupid people.

If so then a glossary is not nearly as necessary. The worst are books with crappy indices.

BullnaChinaShop
I don't remember having any books in college with glosseries (especially technical books). I relied on the indices to find what I needed. I found that the amount of explanation needed for most subjects in my science and engineering books made a good index much more practical than a glossary. Thy Geekdom Come
Yes, well, I am working with the index now, but it would've been much easier with the glossary. Now I have to find which page it's on, look through the page, try to find the definition I need, etc. You know, I took two years of physics in high school and did well, but I've shut off the mathematical part of my brain with all this language and philosophy, lol... Big Joe
Why don't you have a collegate dictionary?
I do, but it's concise, lol. Dictionaries cost a ton. The only really good one I have is my Oxford Classical Dictionary ($99.99 shelf price) and I got that for free as an award, lol, so it doesn't count... theculturewarrior
Our library has the Oxford English Dictionary online. I'll bet your university library has it too.

It's interesting, certainly, but I've had enough. Math too. I'd really appreciate it if when we go to college, they realize that we've had enough of the basics and they start focusing immediately on our majors. A whole bunch of Classics, Medieval Studies, Archaeology, and History would be just great for me...
