Seven77
I know that cremation is permissible but not really recommended and it is wrong when it is done in denial of the Resurrection of the Dead. My question is this-- the Funeral Mass must be said when the person is intact not when he/she is ashes, right? what if the person has been cremated before the Mass? can this be done or not? i heard that this happened at my parish. Thanks.. and for all the work that yall do answering questions!
cappie
In Australia this can be done. Last month one of our parishoners was killed in the Philippines in an ambush. He was cremated in the Philippines and his ashes returned to Australia. We had a Mass for him, with the ashes present, and then the ashes were interred in the cemetry. However one of our priests who comes from US told me that his sister was cremated but the Bishop of the diocese did not permit the ashes to come into the church. They had to stay outside. I have seen advertised in a magazine I receive from the US what is called an OSSUARY which are boxes thsat hold an urn, chest or container of cremated human remains during funeral liturgies and Masses. So I suppose in the US it depends on the local Bishop
