Just curious to hear what you all have to say. It seems to me I have met more conservative Catholic converts. Do any of you know why? Thank you, and God bless!

To paraphase another Phatmasser:

We didn't go through all of the heartache of jeopardizing relationships just to join a wishy washy church.

So, I guess (although I think conservative/liberal aren't quite right here)... I would say that I am "conservative"...

I guess it's a question of semantics. To liberals, I'm conservative. To conservatives, I'm liberal...as far as politics go. I don't think there is a home for Catholics in American politics. "The Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head."

As far as Church doctrine goes, I think we should all be conservative, in the sense of conserving, as in guarding our Traditions.

I agree. To clarify, I mean conservative as far as Church issues, and liberal as far as Church issues.

I am conservative myself. I like to go to the Latin Mass on occasion, and I especially love the Mass on EWTN (I wish there was one like that here locally). I agree, we should guard our traditions. But also be accepting of new ways. For example, I think we definately need to guard our traditions with all the liturgical corruptions and whatnot. But also, I do not feel that a transition for the Latin to the Vernacular was bad, because now people can mean and understand what they pray at Mass. But now, it has been taken too far in some cases. So I dont mind a little change, if it is for the better, but I feel what happens today isn't for the better in some cases. God bless!!

I assume you mean by "liberal" that they don't take the sacraments too seriously or they don't follow the teachings of the Church... or perhaps you mean that they believe "we all pretty much believe the same thing anyway."

I don't think many people who have that attitude bother to go through conversion. I'm sure there are some, but I think people who are serious about the Church and about their relationship with Christ and bother to go through conversion, do it becuase they believe the Church is correct in her teaching and want to follow her in order to be closer to Christ.

I'm an ultra-conservative Catholic, in that I wholeheartedly beleive that she not only has the truth, but is the fullness of the Truth. My opinion is that you do your best to toe the line or get the heck out!

Don't change the Church to fit yourself. Change yourself to fit the church!

I am a conservative with empathy. I think that with the Church Tradition, Scritpure and doctrine we must remain Conservative. However, as we interact with ppl we cannot be lawyers and legalistic (altho certain circumstances require such) we have to be empathatic to them at the same time not compromsiing our Holy Tradition, Doctrine, teachings etc. in any way.

I didn't convert to Catholicism just so that I could dissent from the teachings of the Magisterium; instead, I became Catholic so that, by the power of God's grace, I could assent to the teachings of the Church.

I'm not liberal. I'm not conservative. I'm with the Church. End of story. I think there is a real danger in "labeling" Catholics. Either a person believes and hold precious what the Church teaches, or they don't.

Well said, daugher of Mary. I don't even understand these terms as well as I should for having used them. We should spend less time labeling each other within the Church, and more time comming together to reach out to the people outside of it.

I'm not a convert, so I couldn't vote, but I would probably say I'm conservative, not that I really understand what that means!

I voted conservative, but I don't like that word when it comes to Catholics. You're either orthodox or heterodox, obedient or disobedient. I myself am orthodox and obedient.
