Guest None
Hey! I know this is a dumb question but I'm only like 14 and I dont know as much as most of you would know so heres my question: Okay, I know that God puts us through every situation we go through for a reason and most of time we come out of the situation as a stronger person, such as feeling suicidel, but why would God let someone feel suicidel? The bible says "thou shall not kill"... This question is REALLY bothering me because I myself am feeling suicidel... Please answer as soon as you can! Laudate_Dominum
Thank you for your question. I don't feel in the slightest bit qualified to answer it, but I suppose I can try. Suicidal thoughts are a sign of very deep suffering and despair. The causes of such things are complex, there are physiological factors, sometimes people have been abused in different ways and maybe feel worthless or without hope, etc. Without listing all the possible factors that can lead to depression and despair of such a degree that one may be tempted with suicidal thoughts, I think it is safe to say that they are caused at least in large part by evil situations. Sufferings and temptations are inescapable in this life, God allows them ultimately for our good. This can be very hard to accept when the sufferings or temptations are so extreme, but it is still true. Consider Job in the Old Testament, he was tempted to "curse God and die". But he remained faithful to God and did not loose hope or faith. Such extreme trials are opportunities for extreme acts of faith, hope and love in God. Suicidal thoughts are not really rational and indicate a tormented psyche. It is important to recognize this and seek help. Often people struggling with despair and major depression become very withdrawn and isolated. It is important to resist this and seek out people who can help you and give you support through this trial. As I'm sure you know there are means available which can dispell some of the causes of this. For example if there are physiological factors there are medicines which can help. If there are traumatic past experiences counseling can help. And above all prayer and the grace of God can transform such a terrible darkness into a profound victory for the glory of God and the good of souls. This is what I try to think of when I am going through some terrible trial. I consider that in union with Christ my sufferings will be of benefit to other people in ways that I do not even know. And that regardless of how painful it might be sometimes, life is an incredible gift that we have reason to be profoundly thankful for. Even our sufferings are a gift (or so say the Saints) in a certain sense. I hope this helps. Again, I feel miserably incapable of adequately answering your question so I feel I must stop now. God bless you. You are in my prayers. Peace and Love.
Laudate_Dominum
This is from a PM from Donna: This person (14 yr old "None"), please encourage them to rule out the physical first, when dealing w/ depression/suicidal ideation. I had a wicked case of post partum depression (so I thought): turns out I have Graves' Disease, an immune disease affecting the thyroid. And I'm tellin' ya, no one can talk you out of being severly afflicted mentally and emotionally, if your thyroid or brain chemicals are whacked. Those are but two examples. None should have a thorough physical...including thyroid and diabetes testing. Cholesterol, too...if we are too low on those good oils (cholesterols), depression will result, the suicidal type, according to many good resources I've come across..and I can give None (or anyone) some research to back it up.
