Ziggamafu
1) Am I correct, that the extraordinary magisterium (dogma) is limited to an ecumenical council and the formulaic ex-cathedra teachings from the pope? Everything else is the ordinary magisterium. 2) Does this mean that every word of every document put out by an ecumenical council is infallibly defined dogma? Lumin Gensium, for instance? Feel free to digress and babble on...I'm usually encouraged and inspired by what you guys say.

Everything else is the ordinary magisterium.
Well, yes and no....the pope can speak from the chair in an ordinary and an extraordinary way. Ex cathedra statements can and cannot be part of ordinary magisterium.
Does this mean that every word of every document put out by an ecumenical council is infallibly defined dogma? Lumin Gensium, for instance?
Simply put, no. There are many, many documents that are put forth as clarifications or teachings on a specific part of a specific issue....Musicam Sacram is a great example of this. However, there are documents like Lumen Gentium that are dogmatic. But to say that even this is a dogma is not quite right. It is more proper to say that Lumen Gentium supports the already defined dogmas. Here is a listing of the dogmas of the Faith....if you can accept all of these you are Catholic. If you can't, you are not. Now remember, you need not understand nor comprehend everything on this list, just assent your will to these teachings.
