cappie
This has happened to me numerous times!!!!!!!!!! Bride left standing at the altar by priest A bride who arrived a full 40 minutes late for her wedding at an Irish church was amazed to find she was left standing at the altar by the priest. The Universe reports that when Melissa Kenny finally entered St Peter’s church in Drogheda, Co Louth, Ireland, she saw her husband-to-be Ken Tuite but found no sign of the priest Fr Patrick McDonnell. She was shocked to be told by friends he had decided to leave the altar and wait in the sacristy because Ms Kenny was so late. "It was the worst moment of my life. Everyone was looking and I didn’t know what to do. I was mortified" she said. However, the unrepentant priest said members of the clergy were fed up waiting for brides who are up to 45 minutes late in some cases. "It’s all about me, me, me, the bride is not late for the meal afterwards or the hairdresser but unfortunately she is sometimes late for the wedding," he blasted. "The bride should consider the altar boys and the sacristan who are there for a long time in the church. "It’s not just the bride’s day. I’ve seen more nervous grooms than brides at the altar. If a man is standing at the altar for more than 30 minutes, he begins to worry if the bride is coming." The priest stressed that he was merely in the sacristy only metres away and there was never any suggestion he would refuse to marry the couple. Piccoli Fiori JMJ
Okay, I'm sorry, but the priest should have a bit more patience... I would be more dedicated to what I do, no matter how many times you have to wait.
Phazzan
He should have at least warned them he was going to do a runner if the Bride turned up late. Bad priest, bad BAD priest!
picchick
Knowing me I'd probably be late to everything. But I would try to be punctual to at least the actual wedding. Either that or I would make an honest try at it.
Theoketos
Strange, but good point, esp since I am engaged.
homeschoolmom
No.... not a bad priest. Brides are WAY too into the wedding and being "Princess for the day" that they think the world revolves around them. He was in the church... he didn't NOT marry them... Unless there was an emergency (a broken fingernail is not an emergency), she should be on time.
PedroX
The sacristy is in the same building, just a prep room. there is no need for the Priest to wait in the Sactuary until such a selfish person decides she wants to show up. How disrespectful of her groom, the guests, and a Priest. peace...
Pete-ster
If my bride was that late, I might have serious thoughts about how she'd treat me in marriage. The wedding should be about forming a union between two people and God, not having a big lavish party and wearing nice cloths. How hard is it to plan ahead and not be late to the most important event of your life?
Thy Geekdom Come
I agree with the priest, although I do hope he was charitable about it, but the bride had no right to be upset.
Thomas Michael
Well, how much longer should the priest have waited? 50 minutes? 1 hour? 3 hours? At that point no one knew how late the bride would show up, or if she would show at all. We don't know how old this priest is, either... he probably needed to sit down and rest (sure, he could have done that at the altar, but still...). DemonSlayer
Ok, that's just a bit unusual.
mmmerf
I've heard of situations where brides freak out right before the wedding and don't get out of the car at first. One girl needed an hour's 'pep talk' from the maid of honor before she went in. Funny thing is, that's precisely the sort of behaviour that nullifies a marriage. livingHimloud
wow, bet that groom was having some second thoughts as he stood up there by himself for 45 minutes! poor guy. she should have been on time, goodness, in all the weddings i've gone to, the bride's been early! what was she doing!? i don't think the priest did anything wrong.... it wasn't fair of her to keep everyone waiting all that time. my heavens, on my wedding day i better want to run down that aisle, none of this almost an hour late to my wedding stuff! livingHimloud
one more thing, can we not say that this bride was thinking of herself as the princess. princesses are polite, and sweet and think about others, which is why they are so great. i have princess day every wednesday, and i never keep anyone waiting anywhere. princesses embrace the whole 'i'm third' concept (God first, others second, i'm third). she's giving the name of princess a bad rep. shame on her. i cleaned up an exploded toilet on one of my princess days. tsk. tsk. if she wants to be princess for the day, she needs to focus on who her king is first, and show everyone what His daughters act like.
