track2004
So, I am planning on giving blood in the next few days and thought that I should suggest to the Pham that everyone who can try to do give also. I think it is a really cool way to help people out and it goes along with the giving with out expecting back. Also, there are so many people who need blood everyday in surgeries and this is one of the main sorces of that blood. My friends and I started in high school during blood drives (got us out of class) but have continued over the summers and really when ever we are eligible. If anyone has any questions about donating or just wants to address some issues they have with the procedure just ask me and I'd be more than happy to talk about it. ------------ "You must give some time to your fellow man. homeschoolmom
I would love to give blood. (even though I would probably faint) I have been on the receiving end and I am eternally grateful for donors.... and I'm O negative, which is rare and the universal donor... However, the last time I was pregnant, they had to do the routine blood work... and the nurse at that time had such a hard time finding a decent vein (and it seems to get harder and harder), that he suggested that I not give blood unless it was an emergency. Thy Geekdom Come
I'm a donor, but I can't give for a while (I might be able to now) because of my surgeries. The finger prick for the iron test is worse than the actual donation. I'm an O Positive, by the way.
homeschoolmom
Oh, I know it doesn't really hurt... I just have really, really, really weak veins. And on behalf of the receivers... Thanks.
StColette
I can give blood but I can't give plasma cause I'm under the weight requirement. So I may give blood this time around, although I'm very very very scared of needles
Guest T-Bone
I'm a total needle-phobe. But I give blood regularly (and hope each and every time that I will fail the iron test )
cooltuba
I donated blood on Saturday. In the summer of '96 I volunteered for the local blood bank, and ever since then I donate whenever I can. I'm almost up to 5 gallons! --Tim
Carrie
I'm a donor. I do it about every 6 months. It should be more often, but I'm lazy and it takes awhile to get to the place I donate. I'm O+ too by the way.
Sojourner
I've been a donor in the past, but I tend to have low iron. The last two times I've tried to give I've been just a touch below the minimum level, so I just haven't gone back recently. Plus, I've been exercising a lot more recently, so I need all the blood I've got for the moment. I'll do it again come winter.
track2004
Ya, I def don't like needles, but I thinks it's an important thing to do and I'm not nearly as scared of needles as I am of someone dying that I coulda helped. And I'm O+ too. Oh, and for low Iron, which I tend to have also, I take Flinstones + Iron, taste good and just the right amount for me (I'm 5'2" and just barely meet the weight reqirement). Ok, I have a paper to write for class... silly class.
