Paladin D
The Jesuits are my favorite religious order. However, what are the "conspiracies" that have plagued the Jesuits? What state are they in? Is there any hope? Any good, reliable books that deal with this topic?

Crusader_4
As much as many would have you believe the Order in and of itself is Orthodox (Constitutions, beliefs etc.) However many and i do say many abuse the great freedom the Jesuit order is giving especially in the Universities in the United States. I go to a Jesuit School in Canda that is very orthodox. Conspircary theories have always been a part of the the JEsuits history ever since the JEsuits were "secretly running the Missions in Paraguay on hidden Gold" according to the Kings of Europe because they were so well run and propsoruous (this was not true...about the gold that is). Or the JEsuits are in fact going to come thru the nite and sweep up all the protestants and give them them to the inquistion (Get real) however i am not going to say there are not liberal Jesuits there are....however the Society in and of itself is orthodox. In recent times they have been plauged especially following Vatican II but especially in Canada and Europe and South American Phillipines, and South Asia the Jesuits are as mentioned a sturdy bunch of i would say very good orthodox priests..or brothers. The JEsuits have done amazing work in the Phillipines and South Asia and India remember even going way back to the Early Missionairies all the big missionaries throughout the world were the Jesuits whether in Canada (St. Jean Brebeuf for example) or China (St. Matthew Ricci, St. Francis Xavier, etc.) But because of the unique nature of the order and its 4th vow of OBIDIENCE to the Supreme Pontiff they are a great target from protestants and those outside the faith. ( i could add more and go on but i think this is enough for now) I encourage you to check out the Jesuits of Upper Canada: http://www.jesuits.ca/ Edited September 16, 2004 by Crusader_4

Paladin D
Thanks for the info Crusader, got a question though. On the http://www.jesuit.org site, they only list three vows... not the 4th. I e-mailed them about this, and so far no response. Crusader_4
Thats bizzare that the fourth vow is not mentioned but yes they take it i will search the site myself to see if i can find reference but yes they do take the fourth vow.
Crusader_4
I just took a look on the site and my guess why its not explicity stated is because it is considered a vow of Obidience. And thus a vow of obidience to the Holy Supreme Pontiff. But thats good that you e-mailed them about that.
