Azriel
Is it just me, or is anyone else saddened by the turn of events in this section of our board? Has it really come down to this? Is is so very hard to be civilized and respectful to each other? We are all God's children, and like any phamily we are going to argue and disagree, and flame each other. But seriously folks, its getting out of hand. I think I'm going to bow out of reading the Debate table for awhile, it just makes me sad.

Dave
Azriel, when people come here and start mocking our beliefs, insulting us, and being downright rude, are we to just smile and say nothing? I mean, when they do that stuff, they're doing it to God. We as Catholics shouldn't tolerate it, and it should make us FURIOUS when people do that carp! And we must NEVER back down when it comes to the truth. I'm sorry for posting this instead of telling you this to your face (e.g. in an instant message), but you're not online right now. :(
cmotherofpirl
I understand exactly how both of you feel. Words have become an occasion of sin. :(
Norseman82
It's very tricky, but sometimes we need to remember, as Cardinal George once said, that we can win the argument but lose the person. We must also remember that, being on the internet, there is the potential that millions - maybe billions - may be witnessing our conversations, so we should always have them in the back of our mind. That is the "Rule #1" that I've learned. As I said, it's tricky. Sometimes it may be necessary to go and get a cup of coffee before hitting the "reply" button to review if what we post is necessary to defend the truth or simply "heat of the moment" angry reactions. I've learned this the hard way on other boards, as I have been guilty in the past...
jasJis
Dave, Two wrongs don't make a right. It quickly turned into protestant bashing as retaliation. The Catholic Church does not teach it is the SOLE repository of the Truth, but the Sole Complete repository. When we fall into denomination bashing, we also bash the Truth's that denomination teaches. Take Scripture. The 66 books they recognize is more than 90%. These people have come to know True God and Jesus. None of us know Him completely and need to grow in Grace. Mere arguements don't convince anyone. Anna
Dave is correct. A few on this board come on thinking that they know Catholics are lost sheep. They twist what we believe, what our Church teaches, mock her history, and pray long-winded prayers for our conversion to their error-filled ways, (not to mention the insulting links which have since been deleted) and we're just supposed to sit here and say kind things... Sorry. I'm just not feeling that... virtuous? lately... The slanderous remarks and snide comments generate more of the same...

I haven't seen any denomination bashing. All I've seen is people standing up for the truth. Sometimes that entails pointing out error. No one has bashed the truths that any denomination teaches. cmotherofpirl
People, I think we need a prayer break: Lord we do our best to defend your Truth and the Church you gave us. Keep are tempers and fingers calm as we do this. Keep reminding us that we open the door, and its Your grace that will lead them home. May the Lord bless us, keep us and His face shine upon us, and give us PEACE! Glory be to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. AMEN. Azriel
Let us make one point, that we meet each other with a smile, when it is difficult to smile. Smile at each other, make time for each other in your family. Mother Teresa, in her Nobel lecture
