WillT
Praying for all you guys on the Coast. Also please remember to pray for those of us who live in the potential future path. Even way up here in Chattanooga, TN they are saying we could have floods of "Biblical proportions". I can't imagine what that mans for Coastal areas.
i'm staying where i am (hattiesburg - 60 miles north of the gulf coast)
Good luck! I hope everything turns out Ok for you. Hattiesburg is a beautiful area too, I went there several times in my Mississippi days!

StColette
man poor New Orleans It's really scary for them down there since the French Quarter is under sea level. StColette
I posted this in the Lame Worthless board but I'll post it in here as well My University LSU-S is now a hurricane shelter for those evacuating. There's a possiblity that the Uni will be shut down depending on how many people from New Orleans area arrive. New Orleans within the city limits itself is huge and most of them are evacuating. Now if you add in the surrounding areas the numbers become even larger. Many of the Universities down there have already been shut down and they're moving the students to University shelters in northern Louisiana. From the way our weather station keeps showing it looks as if the hurricane may head straight for New Orleans, which if it does it's going to destroy a large amount of stuff. The French Quarter, itself, will end up being completely flooded since it is built below sea level. My dad met a young couple today who were driving up from New Orleans with their two young children 4 and 2 yrs old. The parents were completely exhausted they had been driving since 9:30 last night and just arrived in Shreveport around 11 am. Now the drive from New Orleans to Shreveport is only 4 1/2 hrs so you can imagine what a mess everything must be down there. Dad said he felt so sorry for them that he was going to offer them to stay with us because they were so exhausted. But they weren't going to be staying in Shreveport. They were just stopping before heading off to Dallas. The University's apartments have become crowded with family members from New Orleans which seems to be making it very difficult for anyone to get any sleep. A friend of mine and his roomie have his parents, grandparents, sisters, and a friend of the family all staying in a small two bedroom apartment with them. Poor things . oh well this is just my little spill on some information. Continue to pray for those who are affected by the hurricane. StColette
I meant to ask this earlier in my post. Do we have any Phatmassers in Southern Louisiana ? I'm way up in northern Louisiana out of harms way from the hurricane. But I was wondering if we had any phatmassers down south. Here's a part of an article from one of our News Stations here in northern Louisiana ---------- In New Orleans, the city opened the Louisiana Superdome to residents with handicaps or medical problems that kept them from leaving the city. New Orleans officials warn the city could be inundated with water up to 20 feet deep. Mayor Ray Nagin said another shelter for other residents staying behind would be opened later in the day. Police imposed a 24-hour curfew on the city, beginning at 2 p.m. today and said it will last until the state of emergency is lifted. They also issued an order forbidding price-gouging. Meanwhile, the mayor said the evacuation from New Orleans is going smoothly. There had been gridlock on the highways earlier but Nagin said for the most part that has subsided. Interstate 20 in north Louisiana was packed with cars at one point today but that had lessened at mid-morning as evacuees look for places to stay. Most area motels were booked and some people were staying in East Texas. Residents have been set up in parishes all over the northern part of Louisiana. ----------- And the news just came on that LSU in Baton Rouge just got shut down, and they are telling students who live in the dorms to leave the campus, meaning they'll be sending students up here to LSU-S because it's a branch of LSU in Baton Rouge. Also University of New Orleans and Xavier College have been shut down as well and they are sending students to shelters in Northern Louisiana. StColette
Well, according to the news here, the traffic going to LSU-S is horrible, policemen are directing traffic now because people from New Orleans are going to LSU-S for shelter. Also all hotels in the Shreveport area have been filled since Monday and Tuesday people are now having to rely completely on the shelters here in Shreveport. *prayers* I have to leave for class in about an hour and fight through the traffic. geetarplayer
And so many people in New Orleans don't have cars because they depend on public transportation, so for now there's no way they can get out of town, and there are no flights out of Louisiana at this time... -Mark
StColette
I know some of the colleges down there are shipping students up here on buses. I wonder if greyhound or local schools are doing the same for people who don't have vehicles.
