Certian slang words I think are pretty good like "Ya" for "Yes" "Nah" for "No" but when you start getting into the weird stuff like.

Its time to hit somuffa! or something like that, then it just gets retarded in my opinion, if I offend anyone I'm sorry, but thats just how I feel.

That would mean banning Phatmass as well...

... unless you want to hear Latin-language rapping.

Slang in Christian Culture?
Mos def! (Except for Liturgy of course)

A great communicator articulates their point the most effectively when they understand their audience. Whether you are speaking eloquently or spitting tha real, as long as the Life-saving message is getting out.
For example, take the Maid in To Kill a Mockingbird who speaks differently when she's working and when she's at her church......

Let us not forget that there are many types of slang in the US, not just "hip-hop" or "ghetto" or "urban" slang... I go to school and work with alot of cowboys, skater-types, and suburban kids, and they all have their own slang that differs from proper english....I don't think they sound retarded, it's just the sub-culture they live in.

so I voted Yes, a Universal message knows no boundaries or language barriers.
I kind of agree with Raphael ,but I kind of dont . God should be spoken of with reverance ,not slang ,it just seems disrespectful.
I understand your view but talking about God with slang also gets people hyped up about it. (ie: righteous b)

There are some areas where it'd be wrong for u to do it and we should just accept that (like places out of ze U.S ). In America, it's acceptable to an extent. If a priest came out at the begining of a homily saying "My Jeezy is of the heezy for sheezy" (happened a couple of times), I dont think it'd be wrong. If some other priest liek Fr. Stan reps God and talks bout his life with God using some slang, I wouldn't mind. It seems wierd but the priest's just being frank. Now if they made prayers in slang or if they sang songs with slang in them at mass... it'd scare me lol

i dont know if he has a beard. I'm not sure if you're refering to Fr. John Corapi or Fr. Stan Fortuna. Fr. Stan's a rapper. He has a very strong accent, so you mighta saw him on Ewtn.

I didn't vote because I'm not sure what is meant by "Catholic culture"...

Obviously you don't use slang in the mass.

But clean slang informally with a youth group, I don't see a problem with it. Clean slang is used in our vocabulary without us even thinking about it. Speaking of slang, I know this dude who lived out in the boonies, this chick was fixing to ask him out. They were gonna check out this cheezy flick at her crib, but it wasn't exactly like the goose, if you know what I mean. This bird was pretty high maintenance and known to bug out a lot, so he pulled a Nancy Drew and said "Sorry, that's a negatory, my home skillet's in town and we're gonna jam in the garage, so I gotta beagle! Tango yankee!"

And no, I would not say that in front of a bunch of people. If I'm going to look dorky, it will be on purpose.
