franciscanheart
Okay here's the dilemma.... For the first time since our parish has had a youth ministry (5 years), we are going to the Region X Youth Conference. It is in oklahoma. The same time the conference is going on, my thespian troupe is going to the state convention. I am president of the troupe however, if need be, the vice president could take on my position for the weekend. The youth conference would be wonderful. It would be a chance to grow with my peers in the faith and have time away from school people. Also, my best friend robin goes to college in Oklahoma now and since i wont be able to see her until mid-december, this would be a good chance to surprise her. The thespian convention really is more pleasure than growth. There are a few workshops that my acting might benefit from and i would get a bunch of privileges for being the president and it is my senior year. I dont know what to do. I really really really really want to go to the youth conference but I almost feel obligated to go to convention.... what do yall think??
StColette
As much as I know how you like theater. I think it would be a better choice for you to go to the Youth Conference. After talking to you regularly this week about wanting to grow in your faith and learn more about your faith I see this as a great opportunity to learn more about your faith and share your faith with others. And you'll also be there learning more about their faith as well which normally helps us to grow in our own faith individually. reelguy227
Youth Conferance ,hands down . Growing in your faith should be the most important thing ,getting closer to God here will strengthen us on our hard and narrow path up to heaven . (^O^) God Bless , Ricky. Thy Geekdom Come
That is a tough choice. You have an obligation as head of your thespian group to go to that, but God always takes precedence. Considering that, in the long run, you will get far more pleasure out of the religious option and that your VP can take over for you at the thespian conference, I'm with Jennie. Go with God, Laura, and God will go with you.
HomeTeamFamily
hmmm heaven or drama, heaven or drama, hmmmm hehe jk.....but i really think i agree with jennie.....just by reading your threads and knowing how you want to rep the faith more in your life, i think the youth conference would be a better bet

Piccoli Fiori JMJ
This year I ditched plans to go to Illinois State HS Theater Fest. It is always a huge thing and I was all signed up, and then I heard there was a Vocations Retreat that weekend. Immediatly I decided I wanted to go to that instead of Theater Fest. Turns out my mom wasn't going to let me go to the Retreat, so it was either go to theater fest or stay home all weekend. Guess what I choose? You prolly guessed I stayed home. It was a good weekend though! ANd I heard theater fest was pretty bad too!

Philippe
wat exactly is this troupe
Philippe
i think you should go with the troupe thing. u did make a commitment and there are plenty of Catholic conferences that you can go to. Although God wants you to grow in faith, at this time, it is your responsibility to go to the troupe thing because it is a commitment you have made and it is your vocation right now to lead your troupe. i know this probably isnt wat u wanted to hear but its my humble opinion. God Bless, i hope you make the best decision
franciscanheart
I am the president of a thespian club pretty much. The thing is that when I ran for the presidency I did commit to leading my troupe. My feeling though is that I am not needed at convention. All I do as pres at this is to walk in the parade and yell my troupe number out during the closing ceremonies. Other than that it is me walking around, doing what everyone else does, only wearing a ribbon that distinguishes me as a higher ranking officer than the other officers of my troupe. That is all. Maybe that will help yall form your opinions....
HomeTeamFamily
:/ this julie gal sure doesnt seem to be very supportive of you......it seems as though when she said that she could cover, it really was to cover herself, like thats her duty........seems kinda sketchy to me..... franciscanheart
She didnt like that i wasnt going to convention because of something religious. She thinks I should put theatre before God. I'm not sure I agree but I still want opinions!!

Thy Geekdom Come
Julie is trying to guilt you. She would ordinarily be fine with being a sub for you, but not in this instance. Ask yourself why that is. My theory: She is in competition with you. As you told me in a chat, she wanted to be president and you were chosen. That made her see you as rivals. She would be more than happy to take over for you when you are unwillingly unable to attend by some unfortunate event. However, when you willingly do not attend and choose to do something else instead, she gets upset. That is all the difference. She is jealous of you and when she can take your position from you for a time, then it makes her happy because she is the taker and the receiver, but if you give it to her for a time, she is upset because that makes you the giver and her the receiver. She doesn't want to owe you anything. Let me guess...this girl acts really polite to you, but considers you an enemy and it makes her blood boil when you are kind to her...oh, and she likes status...she's a bit too proud to be on the receiving end from her "rival." Go to the youth conference.
