Chris Zewe
Wouldn't being overweight be considered sinful since you're direspecting the body that God gave you? Not attempting to incite flames, just wondering...
Brother Adam
What is it do to? Gluttony? Some people are naturally heavier than others. Who determines what "overwieght" is? I know native Americans who are very heavy and have a clean bill of health.

Thy Geekdom Come
Being overweight isn't really a sin, directly. Some of the things that may cause one to be overweight can be sinful, such as gluttony. Gluttony is the practice not only of eating more than is needed, but of eating for the sake of eating (essentially...eating because food is present and out of some greed, you can't wait to eat it when you want it for the purposes of taste or nutrition). Gluttony is most dangerous when there are others to whom the food could go who might need the food or have better use of it. Example: When I was in Pompeii, there was a villa, the dining room of which had slanted floors. These were so that vomit could roll to the sides. It was custom when throwing a party to fill up with food and then regurgitate it, only to eat more. This was essentially a very disgusting way of showing a person's wealth...that they could eat all they wanted without any financial loss.
BeenaBobba
Gluttony is a sin, but being overweight isn't necessarily a sin. Eating a lot, like drinking too much alcohol, can be an addiction. People who have addictions aren't as responsible since their will is diminished significantly. picchick
Right, some ppl can not help being overwieght. Sometimes it is necessary for their survival. For example, eskimos are naturally short and "fat" but if they do not have it they would not survive. Some ppl have it in their genes to be overwieght. They certainly can not help that. carrdero
Chris Zewe writes: Wouldn't being overweight be considered sinful since you're direspecting the body that God gave you?
A person should consider their health as important. GOD believes that we should balance our attention to mind, body and soul equally. If you are going to keep fit, it is very important to keep the focus on where it belongs. On yourself. The only reason an obese person should lose weight is not to please someone else (GOD/human/animal) but to BE responsible to one self.
In ancient Rome as well, I had learned that they used to have specific rooms for this (vomitoriums) in which they would throw up just to make room for more food. yiannii
Gluttony leads to being overweight and the great majority of overweight people eat too much and exercise too little - of course there are minor exceptions.
yiannii
Gluttony is a sin but of course God takes all variables into account and only God can judge.
