franciscanheart
Sorry.... My friend helped out at a retreat this weekend for some confirmants in the area and they were all very uninterested. They are about to make their confirmation but they don't know (almost) anything about their faith. They know what they have memorized but it doesnt seem to be a real part of them. The leader of the retreat had to stop during adoration to give a "respect" talk. They were chatting all the way through, not even giving Christ a second thought!! Please, they need your prayers!! God bless, Laura Thomas (after making my confirmation too early and regretting making the decision to go ahead with it because everyone else was.... this means a lot to me. I pray that they will see how important this sacrament is, as all sacraments are!!)
Piccoli Fiori JMJ
THAT is sad to hear! I know what you mean! My goodness, my confirmation really ment little to me and I have been trying to make up for it ever since! I will pray!
Chris Zewe
Mmm...I was confirmed when I was an atheist. Please flame me. Which you won't do, now that I've told you to. However, you may just to prove me wrong. But then you wouldn't to prove my last sentence wrong. And again. And again. And again...(fade)

Chris Zewe
Aye, but I haven't repented. Please explain my eternal suffering that will come about if I don't change.
Thy Geekdom Come
I'm afraid that this happens too often. It can't just be up to religious educators to prepare kids for the sacraments...it must be up to parents, friends, teachers, priests, deacons, nuns, etc. to prepare them throughout their whole life. My job at seminary was to lead youth retreat groups and it was always so sad to see how little there was of knowledge of and respect for what was going on. This is why I'm very attracted to raising my kids with EWTN only, the Bible, the Catechism, and homeschooling supplemented with a Great Books program...otherwise, we leave way to much in the hands of others and nothing gets done correctly. Lil Red
please refrain from personal attacks against members. you can make your opinion known without resorting to attacks.
Chris Zewe
Okay then, how's this... Raphael, it is my belief that if you don't change the way you're bringing up your children that they will be in extreme physical danger should they ever leave your estate. Guest AloysiusGhost
that's not true. Catholocism has been the center and founder of civilization for centuries. Catholocism is the best way to give a child CULTURE and EDUCATION. Catholic Education has never been beat. It has produced the most intelligent minds and sophisticated people the world has ever known.

Thy Geekdom Come
Raphael, I dearly hope that your children never leave your house, which you probably won't let them anyway. They'll get beat up before they get out of your yard.
I'm distressed that you completely missed my point and chose instead to make an attempt at insulting me for wanting to raise saintly children in the manner children were raised for thousands of years... I never said they wouldn't leave the house. I just said that they would not be exposed too much to the corruption of the secular world we live in until they were strong enough to resist it. It is not only the right, but the duty of every parent to raise their children properly and in a way so as to make them saints.
Chris Zewe
Better get rid of your computer. They may find a Sesame Street ad which has animals (even though they're puppets) being treated with respect and as equals, rather than being slaughtered which is why your God supposedly put them here for. As for not attacking him, I'll try again... Homeschooled kids get beat up. There.
Ellenita
Homeschooled kids get beat up. There.
Interesting, this totally contradicts an article I was reading this week which stated very clearly that a number of people opting to homeschool their children were homeschooled themselves - you'd think that if their own experince was so awful they wouldn't want it for their children. I should also add that I'm not a great advocate for homeschooling - I've been a teacher in schools - so I have no bias in favour for it!
