MichaelFilo
Actually, the press isn't always a reference to the media.... Sexual perversion isn't something intrinsinc to the nature of mankind, so in general, we don't want a bunch of perverts dominating everything... Violence isn't intrinsinc to mankind, we don't want things on TV that would lead kids to shoot up schools... DARN US WE LOVE FREEDOM FROM PERVSERSION AND VIOLENCE.... Thats basically what you said. Chris Zewe
Lmao, my whole post got deleted, rather than just the word. Sorry Mike, I can't possibly be expected to argue with this kind of censorship... I will, however, take a cheap shot by responding and leaving... You think that by not letting kids hear about violence on the news they won't do anything violent? In the recent past, it was commonly believed that kids wouldn't commit suicide if no one talked about it. Now that we do, suicide rates are down. Still on violence...current events are mostly violence. There will still be terrorist attacks in the Middle East, there will still be PoW abuse in Iraq, there will still be power hungry warlords hording food in Africa whether you talk about it on American television or not. American citizens have enough misconceptions about the world as is, the last thing we need is more censorship. Sex on TV being perversion is in the eye of the beholder. I, along with many others, see nothing wrong with it. There are parental controls available to people everywhere that you can use. You can brainwash your kids into thinking like you do. You can calmly explain sex to them at a young age so they don't go out and experiment, rather than using the typical BS stories about where babies come from. Just because your religion says that sex is a gift from God doesn't mean that the country's laws regarding the media should be altered to cater to your beliefs. What it all comes down to, though, is lack of discipline and common sense. If you can't control what your kids watch on television, then you're a failure as a parent. Bai. MichaelFilo
Actually, suicide rates have increased drastically. While talking about things in an orderly manner is a good thing, exposing it to them on the televesion and other sources without any guidance on it is like someone explaining how to make a bomb to a 10 year old, and not telling them what a bomb does. The news is violent, and this is the world. We can't get around that fact. Movies that show violence as heroic, glorify it, and treat it like a god, however, are wrong. Sex on TV is sex in anyones mind who comes by it, and it doesn't have to be just through the TV. You cannot place parental controls on the adult section of a magazine store, you cannot place parental controls on shows that allude ot sex, or show the incorrect use of sex as being perfectly fine (incorrect in the standards of science, that is, procreation). Explaining sex isn't the problem, even a child who knows maybe entrenched in the sexual lust that is dominate in society today, we just want to give people some freedom. We don't want people to be controlled by sex, but instead, for them to control sex. While sex is a gift from God, I'll argue on a scientific note to appease your bloody atheiest side. Sex as far as nature dictates, leads to procreation. Sex on TV is hardly ever for that reason, and harldy ever supporting that end. It is unnatural and disordered, from a scientific point of view. I don't want the media to cater to my beliefs, or the Catholic beliefs, I want it to cater to natural law. It's not so much as what you can't control as a parent. IF you've ever watched any English TV (not bbc) you'll see that even the commercials on good channels are tainted. You can't control that, per se. It is hard to tell a child one thing, and expect them to listen when the whole world seems to be screaming to do the other. Don't go foolio, God bless, Mikey
Paladin D
Chris Zewe, I've heard the same argument before. However, it's your own belief against ours. Sure there are ways to censor content, but there are ways to still view it. If we feel that sex and "unnecessary" violence in media should be drastically limited or eliminated, so be it. We have a freedom to speech, as much as you do.

Chris Zewe
Actually, suicide rates have increased drastically. While talking about things in an orderly manner is a good thing, exposing it to them on the televesion and other sources without any guidance on it is like someone explaining how to make a bomb to a 10 year old, and not telling them what a bomb does. The news is violent, and this is the world. We can't get around that fact. Movies that show violence as heroic, glorify it, and treat it like a god, however, are wrong. Percentagewise, my health teacher two years ago said they went up when people took the"Don't talk about it and it won't happen" approach. And then pen is not mightier than the sword, nothing is ever permanently solved by negotiations unless violence came before it. "Peace is but a prelude to war"... exposing it to them on the televesion and other sources without any guidance on it is like someone explaining how to make a bomb to a 10 year old, and not telling them what a bomb does. Aye, I watch Fox News every day for their "Pyromantic Antics" hour. The only places you'll get instructions for bomb making is in something like The Anarchist's Cookbook...which is a brilliant bit of text anyway. No 10 year old kid is going to use mustard gas on a different sect of his religion just because he saw it on the news. This all comes down to the control of your kids issue, anyway. And the stupidity of the average North American youth when it comes to separating fact from fiction. Yes, you do have freedom of speech and you're entitled to your opinion. Did I once say you weren't? No, I said you were wrong. Leaving them ON the air isn't restricting anyone's rights. Taking them off is censorship. Apply common sense before responding to me, thanks. Why is your kid looking through magazines? Tell him not to. Discipline. And there's nothing wrong with sex at all, especially not alluding to it. Sex as recreation is evil according to your religion. Not to all. If someone wants to watch two people on tv having sex, they obviously have no religious qualms with it. Stop trying to impose Christianity on the world. Oh, and dolphins have sex for fun, too. Are they the spawn of Satan? And people complain why our society is going down the drain. No wonder aliens haven't contacted us yet. Because you'd staple "REPENT OR BURN!" signs onto their foreheads. Even if they were, talking about suicide and making it look glamorous on TV are not the same thing. Those who commit suicide are made to look like idols on television nowadays, and that's not what kids/teenagers need to see. Lol they are? Examples please. And Hara Kiri does deserve respect. Current events aren't what we're talking about. MTV, the WB, ABC, and all the other channels that most kids/teenagers/young adults watch aren't current events. Violence in current events to educate people about what's going on is way different than adding sex and violence to make "entertainment" seem glamorous, which is what we're protesting. Normally I wouldn't even dignify this bit of idiocy with a response, but I'll give you a quick question... You're one of those people who thinks that Bugs Bunny and such are bad influences because they drop anvils, pianos, etc. on people's heads, aren't you? If yes, don't bother responding. I won't answer you. And if you think that American citizens have enough misconceptions already, I don't know how watching the news is going to help them. The media tells what they want to tell... which isn't often the truth. Not delving into the media bias issue... Keeping the violence and sex from them on the news will only increase their misconceptions a hundredfold. Imagine the society you want to create... A kid grows up, following world affairs on your variation of TV. Nothing about the burning hatred in the Middle East, nothing about (I really don't feel like listing examples, you get the point). He turns 18, goes to college and he chooses a profession that causes him to spend a lot of time overseas. All of the violence and hatred in the world would shock him to tears most likely and he'd quit his job and want to run back to America where everything is seemingly fine. He would also tell people of the turmoil that the rest of the world experiences, and those that believe him who weren't too terrified to do anything would riot and storm DC for excessive censorship. No. It's not about keeping sex away from children. Sex on television shouldn't be entertainment for six-year-olds, but it shouldn't be entertainment for teenagers, or young adults, or anyone. Sex is not entertainment. That's where the perversion part comes in. [be nice, no need to shout or use astericks, keep it civil: by flowery] Read above comment. It's not just about the kids. Aye, censorship for all. By 2025, let's try to make Catholicism mandatory. sorry, my fault. i accidently took it all off instead of what was needed off. my bad...apologies. Twice in one day, both were my posts. HMM... MichaelFilo
Chris, you seem to think I am basing the idea that recreational sex is wrong from a Catholic point of view. Do you know anything about teenage pregnancy? How about, STD's? How about what situations recreational sex happens to occur in? Do you know about, the effects of the prolification of sex in a society? Catholicism won't be mandatory anytime soon, nor was it ever like that. However, it's still has the largest followers in the world. Also Chris, you seem to carry certain views about Catholics that are stereotypical, so as long as you choose to refer to Catholics isn a sterotypical manner, please understand, what you have to say loses credibility. Chris Zewe
Perhaps if every post to me didn't have a pathetically patronized air to it... MichaelFilo
Because condoms work so well..... Birth control murders babies, which you are fine with, Birth control doesn't stop the spread of STD's which urin newborn children who have STD infected mothers. Not idiocy, sign, logic, reasoning.
