Sadly, there isn't much left for Ivan to destroy. Just as sadly, my house is one of the few things that is left for Ivan to destroy.

another one? Lord please protect all people, homes, and businesses in Florida. Most Merciful Father we know that nothing is impossible for you, if you want to please let the storm dissapate completely. We ask this in the Name of Your Son Jesus Christ! Amen!

Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help, Star of the Sea, pray for us!

Whew! Just got back from Daytona Beach, bring materials to crews over there. It was amazing to see the hundreds (yes, literally hundreds) of tree, power, and other utility trucks from around the US traveling just the bit between Tampa and Daytona. The US rocks.

There is plenty left in Fla. to destroy. I've learned alot about the extent of damage and type of damage from my travels this week and from talking to my crews. It's not as life threatening (if you evacuate from mobile homes, flood prone areas, and close to where it comes ashore) as people think. It's the damage to power lines that's real bad. Let's say you are 10 miles inland. Your concrete block house isn't going to blow away, but a tree may fall on it or some shingles blow off. It's not have electricity for days or weeks as you try to repair, clean up, live, etc. It's local stores not having power to keep food for you or gas stations without power to pump gas. I was in a Publix in Daytona at 2pm, and they were getting their first meat since Frances. Many intersections are running on generators. People would come up to me and ask me if I could go look to see if I could help them get power just because I had a hard hat and orange vest on. It's living in misery for them.

Now consider how all the people in Grenada, Jamaica, Bahamas, Cuba, etc., have to live. Consider how without resources to even come close to Florida's efficeincy in repairing stuff. How many Home Depots and Lowes that can truck in wood, shingles, and windows do you think are in Freeport or Havana? Sorry, but Florida doesn't need prayers or help as much as these other people do.

Donate to Catholic Charities today.
