MichaelFilo
There are 2 pains of Hell of which we know of. The lesser, the pain of the fire, and the brimstone, etc. The physical pains. The devil does suffer from these, as he is in Hell, and so must suffer like the rest. The greater pain, seperation from God. The devil, while in Hell, is seperated from God, however, does he truely suffer from it? Unlike us humans, who aren't born with the intellegence of the angels, we don't realize how much God does for us until we are seperated from Him. The Lucifer knew well that he would lose cummunion with God if he rejected Him, and knew what it would be like. Since he chose to be against God, then he cannot truely suffer from seperation, as seperation was and is and forever shall be his intent. In conclusion, Satan only suffers from the lesser pain, the phsyical pain. he doesn't suffer from lack of communion with God. He, instead feeds of it. Since Satan has set his goal to be against God, then surely he cannot suffer from being friends with Him. Just some more thinking, open for correction, God bless, Mikey
Aloysius
i don't think so just because it was his intent doesn't mean he doesn't suffer from it
MichaelFilo
Now the idea is this. He is totally and 100% against God. His whole being is against the Lord. Why would he suffer from lack of communion with God, whom he hates? God bless, Mikey
Aloysius
because he was created to be with God. not being with God is contrary to the purpose of his soul, and thus his soul suffers
MichaelFilo
The angels weren't created to be with God, they were created out of God's love. I am sure God has the intent of all his creation to be with Him, but I can't say that we are made for that very purpose. God bless, Mikey
Aloysius
we are made to know, love, and serve God so are the angels

White Knight
Angels dont have souls, I thought they were just spirits........ am I right?
Aloysius
well, a spirit is soul, just not a human soul. a human soul is intended to be united to the body, a angelic soul is pure soul, a spirit.
White Knight
Oh see, I thought Spirits and Souls were too different things because of how ours operations. Body, Soul, and Spirit, are all infused as one during our nature lives, then seperate, at death, The Soul, and Spirit leaves the Body and the Spirit goes to Heaven, while ethier the Soul goes to Heaven or Hell. I always thought Angels didn't have souls, I always thought they were pure Spiritual beings.
Guest JeffCR07
Mikey, good thoughts, though I have to side with Al on this one. All things are made by God, and all things are ordered towards him, even the fallen angels. Moreover, the premise that his desire for seperation does not seem to be valid, for one can feel pain even if one wills it. To use an earthly example, I could, through pure force of will, tightly grasp a hot iron. The stronger my will is set, the longer I will continue holding on. Certainly I feel pain the entire time. Now, let us consider Satan. I would posit the following, keeping in mind the previous example: 1.) the pains of seperation from God far outway those of the senses 2.) The Devil's Will is entirely, irrevocably set against God Conclusion: Despite the unimaginable pain caused by seperation from God, the Devil shall forever continue to oppose Him and prolong his seperation with Him. This does not negate the pain, but merely continues it. Moreover, consider the following: Is it really fitting that Satan, the Father of Lies and Prince of Sin, should suffer less than the damned souls of those he misled? It seems only logical that the answer is "no" and, as such, that Satan must indeed feel the pain that comes from seperation from God. Quite a testament to his Pride, no? - Your Brother In Christ, Jeff
Eyo, White Knight. if you're interested in some hardcore angelology, read up in the Summa Theologica by St. Thomas Aquinas what he has to say about angels. it's really cool, since it goes on about exactly what an angel is and all taht... come to think of it, they need a link to angels in the reference section... Paladin D
Here is something to think about: I believe Satan will suffer pain of separation from God. Aren't there not incidents in the Bible where Satan encounters God and dialogues with Him? I wouldn't be suprised if he still talks to God till this day in a similar fashion. So when he finally is sent to the Lake of Fire, he will not only suffer physical pain... but the pain of being fully separated from God (with no contact).
