MichaelFilo
Working out to look and feel better isn't vain, per se. Working out is meant to keep you in shape in a day and age when moving around isn't the norm. This is fine if you use it to get to a certain physical level, because you are just compensating for how little movement we do throughout the day. However, I stress that you be careful, be fit and no more. Beiong to worried with the things of this world can lead you away from God. So, be fit, and no more, take it from someone who works out. RemnantRules
Blessed Be God!!! To add on to some of the people have been saying is also, don't let Exercising take over your life. That's what happen to my mom, she was so worried about running EVERYDAY that she would try and fit mass into her workout instead of the other way around. Just remember that let your faith still be the center. God Bless Jason Gregory
Paladin D
I agree, one cannot use exercise to dictate one's life. I'll be careful.
WestCoastCatholic
I've been under the same dilemma too. The way I've learned to look at it is, "As long as you do it for Christ, and in His name, you can't go wrong." I s'pose that's applicable to just about anything in life, more recently working out for me...Best of luck to you Paladin. MichaelFilo
The very topic of this title must be commented upon. "Wanting To Look Good = Vain?" Yes. Why? It is fruitless to look good for other people. Wanting to look good for Jesus by entering the Church dressed nicely is fine. Wanting to look good to impress is vain. Is it vain if a man were to shave his facial hair, put gel in his hair, and etc? ...thats the context I met it in. Both want to look good in public, not a bunch of rags. VeraMaria
I don't think it's vain. Plus, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit Make your motto AMDG (Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam) y todo va a ir bien
reelguy227
How can trying to attract the opposite sex sound vain ? After all its looks that attract people to each other first .
MichaelFilo
Looking presentable for the situation and purposly looking good for the sake of looking good is wrong. Looking good in the hopes of attracting someone, and I mean a personal effort to look better than usual, is usually a thing that only really affects you, not the other person, so it's not a valid reason. A woman should like you for who you are, not what you look like. The idea that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit only goes so far. I think looking presentable for the occasion is good enough for the Holy Spirit, because anything in excess past that point would be vain. reelguy227
Making yourself look good isnt vanity I just wont believe it . Is vanity a mortal sin ? And even if I do try to make myself look good I do it for others not for my own satisfaction. Thats all there is to it.
MichaelFilo
Please tell me what others get out of you looking good? Vanity isn't a mortal sin, in that I mean doing things in vain, as in, bearing no fruit. Vanity where you think too highly of yourself (also pride) is a mortal sin. I have yet to have a woman come up to me to say that she is dumping a better looking guy for me simply because he is a fornicating bum and I am not. reelguy227
Whats so bad about making myself look good ,if I should meet my future spouse ,I dont want to look ugly .And no matter what you say its looks that attract someone first , you dont go up to a girl/guy and ask them for their phone number just because of their personality ,you dont even know them at that point .Im not making myself look good to look in the mirror and say "oh ,you are so good looking ricky " ,thats vanity.
