Lil Red
who watched? who saw the little girl from China, holding a flag, and all the commentaters were like "Oh isn't that just great?" and other pithy comments. what ticks me off is that China is one of the worst violators of human rights, and of children's rights, and here was all these people thinking of China in a cuddly kind of way. this was right after the article someone posted on here about China forcing a woman to have an abortion against her will. i think this is ridiculous that they are even being allowed to have the next Olympics.
CreepyCrawler
remember back in the day when the US protested going to Russia b/c of the cold war and such. Too bad we're so interested in the medal count to protest going to China in four years.
drewmeister2
I think China is a great place, it has so much culture. I have visited there. While they have problems, we also in America have plenty of problems of our own, just different kinds. So before you go off protesting having it in China, you might as well protest having it in any country. We all have major problems in every government in the world. I agree, they do have some problems with abortion and human rights, but we have other problems of our own. Just something to keep in mind.
Phazzan
Uh, wasn't the Closing Ceremony like more than a week ago? Stoopid Americans, no wonder they're so far behind the rest of the world!

Socrates
I think China is a great place, it has so much culture. I have visited there. While they have problems, we also in America have plenty of problems of our own, just different kinds. So before you go off protesting having it in China, you might as well protest having it in any country. We all have major problems in every government in the world. I agree, they do have some problems with abortion and human rights, but we have other problems of our own. Just something to keep in mind.
China has one of the most evil governments in the world I think - forced abortions, a repressive militant atheist Communism, virtual slave labor, violent persecution of Christians and other religions etc., etc. I think long term, China may be the greatest threat (of course, we've become economically co-dependent on China, but that's a whole other thread.) This is not to minimalize the problems here or other places, but to trivialize China's evils is just wrong. You sound like those people during the Cold War who would say, "Hey the U.S.S.R.s not that bad. It had its problems, we've got ours." "Nazi Germany's a great place. Sure, they've got their problems. . ." You get my drift.

homeschoolmom
He's Australian... We boycotted the Moscow Olympics because the USSR had just invaded Afghanistan. If China were to invade Tiawan, do you think we'll boycott? Hmmm... anyone...?
reelguy227
We should boycott them not because they invade someone but because they violate human rights left and right .
