cmotherofpirl
I think it would be within reason to say that the practice of circumcision is widely abused here in the states. There are NO health benefits (except possibly preventing a disease later on, which in all fairness, wouldn't be a good reaosn to cut anything off). If you guys are interested enough, I suggest a study on the history of circumcision in the US (only 20% of the male population in the world is circumcised). As far as this council, Socartes made a good point. God bless, Mikey
Its not an abuse.
MichaelFilo
I think it would be within reason to say that the practice of circumcision is widely abused here in the states.
Spelling errors aside, I said the practice is abused, not an abuse. While I did say it has no health benefits, I was referring to infant circumcision. There are cases (rare) that would require an adult to get circumcised. Therefore, the practice isn't an abuse. Circumcizing infants is an abuse of this practice however. God bless, Mikey Edited September 8, 2004 by MichaelFilo
jasJis
The Baltimore Catechism states that "a Catholic sins against Faith by participating in non-Catholic worship when he intends to identify himself with a religion he knows to be defective." This states the Church teaching on this matter quite concisely - the sin is when someone is identifying himself with another religion by participating in its practices - I beleive this should put a lot of the debate on this site in perspective. If it is obvious and clear that a Catholic is not following another Religion's observances, there is no sin.
This is a great post. If a Catholic were to regularly do readings at an regular non-Catholic Christian service. I would think that was sinful. On one hand, you are acknowledging they (nCC's) are graced to recognize the Word of God, but you may be giving the false impression that the Word alone is sufficient Grace and blind them to the Truth of the Graces in the Eucharist, the Truth of the Graces in Reconcilliation, etc. The Catholic Church is not sole possesor of Grace, but the sole possesor of the Fullness of Grace. All other Christian religions are subject to the Catholic Church since the Catholic Church alone was the original source of Grace for all Graces they have and recognize. No Christian religion sprung up independently, seperate from the Origianal Body. They are off shoots of the Original Body, tendrils of the Main Vine, recieving the Holy Spirit from the Catholic Church which is the Main Vine rooted in Christ. Jesus is the Gardener who will cut off the tendril if it fails to bear fruit of the Spirit.
