Laudate_Dominum
Hi Laudate, What's that about? God bless, Jen
It's an epic poem, some would say the greatest achievement in German literature. It's basically about the struggle within the human heart between good and evil, God and the devil, etc.. Faust is a guy who sells himself to the devil for knowledge and power. It is pretty metaphysical and psychological. Interesting stuff.

lynn
Kristin Lavransdattar by Sigrid Undset. Undset won a Nobel prize for literature for Kristin L. Set in Medieval Norway. Very Catholic. Wonderful read. It would make a wonderful movie. lynn

Iacobus
You sound just like Jacob...
I read Without Remose and umm was upset. To say the very least. Sure, Kelly was killing drug dealers and freeing the women but he was still killing.

It was a good story as long as you're not expecting a real Catholic interpretation of heaven. I liked it though....it was a quick read.
hopeful1
speaking of grim books about the future, one of my favorite books growing up was The Giver, too. I remember the first time i read it i thought it was like a prophecy of what the world could be like in the future. I also loved books by Madeline L'Engle, she always found a way to make something as complicated as quantum physics sound like poetry, blended with some theology (although i believe she's Episcopalian, but still cool). Snow Falling on Cedars was good, but definately not a kids read. Tuesdays with Morrie, and of course, anything written by Scott Hahn.
