Has anyone ever read The Robe? I know a lot of people have seen the movie. I haven't seen it, but I think that the book is probably a whole lot better, because it is really really good.

Also, I really like David Copperfield. The Autobiography of St. Margaret Mary is one of my favorites too.

Everyone should read the Robe. It is such an awesome book about the early times of The Church.

The title is not very charitable at all, but the book is really good. [/quote]
I read that. Sometimes Michael Moore says some incredibly terrible, stupid and immature things, like suggesting something about "money you might be putting into the church collection going to a women-hating organization" (I presumed this to be his take on pro-life organizations.)

I am not entirely certain what to make of some of the facts he comes up with and if they are entirely accurate, but they are food for thought. For example, apparently manufactured cars had better gas mileage during the Reagan presidency than they did during the Clinton presidency.

Chapter 8 in that book suggests the way to achieve peace in Northern Ireland is to just convert everyone to Catholicism, and I couldn't tell if he was expressing some actual love for his Catholic background or poking fun of it. Maybe both. Apparently he's raised Catholic and was once a seminarian -- he's definitely a confused Catholic (still practices somewhat, has seen the Passion a couple of times...) Pray for Michael Moore.

With that being said....

I like "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. I enjoy dystopian novels like this because they paint a grim picture of what the world very well could become. Especially Huxley's book where society considers marriage and children born traditionally as "archaic and obscene" and everyone is obsessed with sex and genetic perfection.

Lately I've taken a shine towards some of the classics I've never gotten around to reading in the past, like Jane Eyre, Little Women, et cetera.

I like those "Chicken Soup" books too. They always make me cry. :sadder:

To Kill a Mockingbird - all time best that I read as a child

Best escapist read? The Stand - Stephen King - and then the Dark Tower books.
