I think some people tend to like very defined answers and structure to theology. That is why some people come up with very black/white answers or attempt to strip away areas of gray and choose fundamental/non-denominational philosophies. I think you both share this trait to some degree and you are responding to a similar thought process, even though you have drastically different conclusions or beliefs.
