jasJis
It depends upon how grave you understand it to be. You are risking causeing incredible hardship on your wife if you were injured. Consider if you damage another's car or injure them and cannot pay for them to recover their loss you are responsible for. Are you driving alot, or very little, only when it's absolutely necessary and for short distances? Why don't you have insurance?
Brother Adam
It's not me driving w/o insurance. Thought it is very short distances (as far as driving is concerned) for the person to get to work. And they can't afford it.
homeschoolmom
What's the law in Michigan? Here the law requires it.
Brother Adam
The speed limit for this person to get to work is 25-35 MPH zones. So it is highly unlikely that they would put any lives or property in danger. Though it is still a risk.

jasJis
I don't think I'd call it 'Mortal'. You know the qualifications. But it could be very serious. That person should seize the opportunity for Grace, and start bumming rides, or walking, or riding a bike. Life's an adventure. Who knows who they will meet or what will happen. Bro Adam. I'm going to send you an e-mail. I've got a question for you.
homeschoolmom
If it's a very short distance, walk.
Brother Adam
Right, but one qaulification is "grave" in nature. That is what I was questioning.
Sojourner
People get in accidents all the time at low speeds. I've been hit 4 times, none of them my fault, and all of them in speed zones less that 30 mph. Driving without insurance is a bad idea for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that it's illegal. Your friend is putting himself/herself at risk, and the investment she/he put into a car -- what if someone who is uninsured hits him/her? (This has happened to me and to a couple of friends of mine -- in that case, your insurance covers any damage to you or to your car). Or, what if he/she hits someone else? He/she is personally liable for damage to persons or property. What if a child runs in front of this person's car? What if a bicyclist comes out of nowhere? This is why we have insurance. If they can't afford insurance, then they can't afford to be driving a car. Get a motor scooter or a bike, esp. since it's really short distances. Brother Adam
Right right. For this gal it would be a hour walk or 10 minute drive. Anyways, you answered my question Jasjis. Thanks all. Problem solved.
Sojourner
As far as the sinfulness of it ... you're disobeying a law of the state, and it could have serious consequences. Not sure where that falls in the moral scheme of things ... but it's not a good idea, that's for sure.
homeschoolmom
You are putting other people in possible danger. If someone doesn't have insurance and the injured party's insurance doesn't completely cover all the medical bills, that person might have to file bankruptcy! I would say that's pretty grave, don't you?

Brother Adam
Maybe, maybe not. Stealing food becuase you are hungry and have no means could fall into grave too in certian circumstances. I guess it's for the Church to decide though. Dang it's good to be Catholic.
