phatcatholic
I'm still not really understanding it very well. That verse(Rom. 5:20) does seem to say that where grace is, sin is. So according to that verse if Mary is full of grace, then wouldn't she have sin also? That's the way I'm reading it.
look closely at the verse again: Rom 5:20 Law came in, to increase the trespass; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more what this is saying is that wherever sin is and no matter how strong it is, the grace of Jesus Christ will be there too, and it will be stronger. grace will always overcome sin. grace will always "abound all the more." if the devil dishes out 100 gallons of sin, Jesus will dish out 101 gallons of grace. thus, the more grace that is present, the more we can be certain that sin has been overcome. now, apply this understanding to Mary. she is "full of grace." this means that there is no room for sin. Jesus has fully overcome sin in the life of Mary, not only by erasing it once it touches her (as he does w/ the rest of us), but ALSO by anticipating it and not even allowing it to touch her in the first place. this is a special grace, an "abounding" grace like none other. make sense now? pax christi, nick
