White Knight
Ok, we all know the Pope has done very big things in the 20th century, like helping with the fall of the Soviet Union Communism, and The Pope has done many great things poior to that era in time, but hes getting up there in his age, and one ponders who might be the next "The Pope" to suceed John Paul II. My Question is, Who will be the next Pope, and How long as John Paul The II been well "The Pope?"

God only knows, but if I had to make a prediction I would say Cardinal Francis Arinze. But I really have no say in the matter. I found this site with some bio info on likely candidates but i'm not too sure how reliable it is. Crusader_4
Cardinal Ratzinger....(i wish). I always thought it would be cool if the Caridnals found a good lil orthodox priest in some small parish that would never be expected.
toledo_jesus
they say that when the college of cardinals gathers to elect the new pope, there are always a number of likely candidates and usually one clear favorite. One constant has been that if you enter the Sistine Chapel as the pope, you will leave as a cardinal.
Theoketos
^I was going to say the same thing, though I probably would have worded it less eloquently...
Scofizzle
That is true, but it never hurts to learn a little bit about our Cardinals......but it would be so sweet if Cardinal Ratzinger was elected Pope. But God is the one who knows whats up with that.
HartfordWhalers
Cardinal Ratzinger is too old to be elected, correct?
Guest JeffCR07
not explicitely, but many think that the next pope should be relatively young so that (hopefully) his papacy will be able to work on consolidating the Church and propogating the theology of the body. HomeTeamFamily
im just excited to.....in all honest probability be a practicing Catholic for the next papal election.....i think its going to be a very prayerful time for all Catholics but a very exciting time too id like to see someone with a grave reverence for the Eucharist personally toledo did you mean that when someone enters the sistine chapel as POPE they come out a CARDINAL? or the other way around or with BISHOPS to CARDINALS??? im just a bit confused cuz i thought you couldnt go down the ladder, only up
Aloysius
i think what he means is that when someone enters as the favorite (i.e., everyone says they're gonna be the next pope) they leave as a cardinal. like, they're entering as the presumed pope but leave still a cardinal
