I do rep the church. I just don't rep The Catholic Church.

is it possible to get a "I don't rep the Catholic Church but I do rep Christ" type tag, just to be fair and balanced?

i'm banking on this turning into some sort of good debate.......

You sound like you're giving a plug for Fox News -- "fair and balanced."

:rotfl:

I guess my dad has it on the telly all the time so it came to mind.

Which Christ? The one that didnt create the papacy? The one that created 35000 differing protestant denominations? or the one that made a church, that existed, but didnt?

So many Christ's.

Morph,
That's not very nice and not really true. It IS the same Christ, but mulls (as do all non-Catholic Christians) doesn't share the fullness of understanding Christ that the Catholic Church does.

It is semantics. The Catholic Church recognizes all Christians as brothers and as members of the Church, but they are in imperfect union and are not members of the Catholic Church under normative conditions. Would you like the references to the Catechism.

mulls,
For clear semantics, it's easier for dUSt to refer to the Church in our titles as the Catholic Church. I think it would be great if you utilized your signature or when you get enough posts, change your title to clarify your membership in the Church. The terminology dUSt uses also serves to enlighten the many "lurkers" who visit and read posts and not have them mistakenly believe a poster is Catholic and is representing Catholic terminology.

I'm sorry, mulls, but I just find it absurdly pompous that anyone would claim that they represent Jesus.

I know that we are called to be embassadors for Christ, in that we are to share the Good News, but Christ did establish One Church, and an authority to represent Him here on earth, and I hate to break it to ya...
but... :(

well... :o

you know... -_-

It's the Catholic Church, and the Vicar of Christ, the Holy Father, and all the ordained priests in communion with him, who truly act in persona Christi, who've been given the authority by Christ to represent Christ.

Just reading the Bible and interpretting it for yourself and searching for Truth isn't enough (at least I should think on a Catholic forum) to claim that you represent Christ. -_-

In Essence: The Catholic Church represents Christ. If you aren't a part of It, you can't really claim that you represent all that Christ gave to the world. :sadder:

Pax Christi. <><

Sorry bro, but Christ is clear on the matter....

Luke 10:16 "He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me"

Those who reject the ones sent by Christ cannot represent the Church. There is one faith... One Church... The Pillar and Foundation of Truth 1 Tim 3:15.

If one is Catholic by desire, they still do not represent the Church. To represent the Church one must know and follow the Sacred Traditions and hold to the proper interpretation of Scripture.

God Bless,

Just think, mulls, if someone asks the pope, or a priest, what Jesus' words meant at the Last Supper.
Then, they ask you.
Would the answer be the same?
Would both be God's Truth?

Anna,

i would hope that in each case the reply would be "Jesus gave Himself up for us."

Jas,

thanks the logical answer.

more thoughts from more people please...

thanks for the logical answer

Brother Adam

In a certian faucet you do represent the Church, as a seperated Brethren. However, it is simple enough for a person confused to ask what the "tag" means.
