Movies For Kids

We are looking to compile a list of good family movies-- not kid movies (those are pretty obvious). We are looking especially for older movies (before it was "cute" to have obnoxious, poorly behaved children dominate the movies). Basically we want sort of a "It's a Wonderful Life" or "The Princess Bride" type movies. HSdad and I are desperately trying to pull our kids away from too many overly PC, obnoxious offerings. Religious movies are very easy to come up with, but if you wanna state the obvious, go ahead.

So... what do you all like?

My kids are 5 1/2 and 8 (and almost 1)

I love the Goonies as much as the next person ... but it's one that may not be appropriate for some kids.

Disney put out a host of fairly decent family movies in the 60s and 70s ... the original Freaky Friday, Pollyanna, The Absent-minded professor, the Shaggy D.A., That Darn Cat, etc.

I remember watching all these as a kid and loving them. I know there are others, but these are the first that come to mind.

I love the Goonies but thats not really a child-appropriate movie. If it were just HSmom and HSdad watching I'd totally agree with you but there are definately elements that aren't for kids that I picked up on watching it for the first time as a child, and I wasn't a worldly kid, I thought "sex" was a bad word.

Well...we just find that kids movies are so much better than the rest because we usually don't have to worry about the words, the implications, or the physicalities that come out in a lot of other movies

And....we started asking ourselves, 'Is this something that we'd want our kids to watch' before we got married. So...that should explain it ;)

Thy Geekdom Come

The Money Pit is hilarious and should keep your kids laughing, and the adult humor went right over my head when I was little...you might want to edit some stuff, though.

Robin Hood

Peter Pan (the live action with some woman playing Peter was one of my favorite movies as a kid)

Big (with Tom Hanks, but it has a couple allusions to adult themes, too)

SOME WOMAN!!?? You mean Mary Martin? :sadder: (she's Larry Hagman's mom, you know)

Or did you mean the later production with Sandy Duncan. (She has a glass eye)
