Please help. My priest finishes the homily. A woman comes up,a nd tells us about the Church ministries. It happened several years back with NFP... can anyone help here?

Ty,

God bless,

Mikey

IS it liturgical abuse, I should ask. I think it is.

irregular, whatever it is. I don't know if it's an outright abuse, but nobody except a priest or deacon should give the homily, and after the homily we usually go into the Creed...not really the time for announcements. Consider yourself lucky that she only made an announcement. My 'pastoral coordinator' gives one homily a month. She's very intelligent and awful dedicated to her ministry, but sometimes I feel like she could benefit from reading certain laws of the Church...
Nothing was stopping this woman from making her announcement during the announcements part of Mass, or letting the priest do it. I mean come on.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were waiting for me...

Yes, it does appear to be an abuse.

From your post, it seems that they are not giving a homily or reflection on the readings, but an announcement of sorts. This sort of announcement or explanation of a ministry may be allowed, but it should not be immediately after the homily.

Redemptionis Sacramentum, no. 74 states:
If the need arises for the gathered faithful to be given instruction or testimony by a layperson in a Church concerning the Christian life, it is altogether preferable that this be done outside Mass. Nevertheless, for serious reasons it is permissible that this type of instruction or testimony be given after the Priest has proclaimed the Prayer after Communion. This should not become a regular practice, however. Furthermore, these instructions and testimony should not be of such a nature that they could be confused with the homily, nor is it permissible to dispense with the homily on their account.
