Dinosaurs

there was a question in Q&A about this and I've always had a theory about this that usually intrigues any Christian I tell it to. I've never heard it from anywhere else, so I'm assuming it's my original thought.

I think the dinosars were around during the time Adam and Eve were in the garden. Death didn't exist yet, so it could've been millions of years in the garden. Then when Adam and Eve fell God killed off all the dinosaurs (I don't know how, scientists still don't know how, could've been a meteor or whatever) so Adam and Eve wouldn't get killed.

And thus: human beings are responsible for just about every extinct species that ever went extinct!

maybe from me... i posted it before i think

but if you can find someone else that has said that and destroy my dreams of actually coming up with a thought that has never been thought before, let me know ;) :P

One time a kid asked this to a group of us during a discussion. He asked why make dinosaurs if people never interacted with them, weren't they useless. The response was no they were not useless because they make him, and generally every 5 year-old boy happy. So maybe, even tho we didn't get to see them, they fulfill a part of us that wonders what was before us.

The animals were created before man.

Hmmm... But there was no death until the Fall, so they couldn't have gone extinct before the creation of man.

An interpretation of the Bible on that point that I have considered and held to in the past, and which Apotheoun recently reminded me of, is that animals suffered death prior to the fall of Adam and that in man's original state he was preserved from death through grace, but after the fall this grace left him and death came upon us as it does the beasts.

There was an article in 'The Scientist' an aussie science mag, saying that a comet, could not have killed all the dinosaurs, for all forms of life would be dead, and so, life could not start again, even from bacteria, since that would have been killed. One theory goes, a comet did hit, but didnt destroy them, but might have released some time of bactera or viral agent.

Wonderful world of theories.

Al, I was a Protestant for a long time... we came up with a lot of different thoughts on this subject. I can't quote anyone. I'm sure I heard it more than once.

actually, i've heard that a slight temperature change caused by a dust cloud from a comet could have killed the dinosaurs. They were reptillian, and many reptiles today become male or female based upon the temperature that they incubate at. A slight degrease in temperature could have made them all males, and this would have made perpetuation of the species rather difficult.

This also explains why the great lizards that still exist are still around: Crocodilians live near large bodies of water, and water has a very high thermal capacity, so the water would keep the temperature change from being as dramatic. This could theoretically keep enough females around that the species wouldn't be annihilated.

Peace,
Joe :)
