Budge
I had the accusation that I never been Catholic foisted at me before but I have online proof. Catholic Community Forum posts from 1999. I was cradle Catholic left for UU from 18-30 and back to Catholic Church for two and half years. (left in 2002) I think its funny how on here even the Trad Catholics and more liberal types get the CATHOLIC LITMUS TEST. But during my years on religious message boards. Ive seen many groups as called NOT REALLY CATHOLIC. The Jesuits arent really Catholic. That Pope, that Cardinal, that bishop arent really Catholic so forth and so on. Isnt it PRIVATE INTERPETATION for someone on this board to determine whos a Catholic and whose not...
p0lar_bear
Budge, All the stuff about people pretending to be Catholic is in reference to ICTHUS, who Ironmonk thinks only pretended to be Catholic in order to confuse people. (I don't really agree with the assesment, I'm just reporting...)
Noel's angel
its not the point that was being made, its just that some people are pretending to be Catholic, when theyre not

Well, I am not one of those who did such "foisting" but I did know you are an ex-Catholic. That is a contridictory of terms in my mind in an way, as deep down, I think that "Once a Catholic, always a Catholic" comes into play when the individual who has left the Church years ago, having apostated from the fait utterly and completely, often cries out for a priest in his/her last moments. I gave a report to someone who was questioning your "credentials" and I gave the best ansswer from the top of my head about you. What is a "LITMUS TEST"? Or do you suppose some here in this conference would not look at me with a rather jaundice eye if I wereto support abortion, birth control and other things the Chruch teachs against, yet insist I am a Catholic, wanting to go to communion and all that? For me personally, I will hang on to the term "Catholic" for any individual, no mater what, even you, Budge, since I have great confidence most "Catholics," even those in serious sin, doctrinal differences, etc., will somehow come back in sublime optimism, knowing full well that Almighty God, in His infinite mercy and justice will have many individuals go to heaven eventually, even while we may be shocked in our limited knowledge of the condition of the soul of any individual. Purgatorty must therefore, be quite full, a mercy of God that would eventually have even those in purgatory all go to heaven. In other words, there is great joy in purgatory since they have the knowledge that after the purging, they will go to see god in the Beatific Vision. But I stray here... As for those groups that are called "NOT REALLY CATHOLIC," come holy Spirit that they would come to full accounting to the Church! I am an optimist, Budge, even for YOU! God bless, PAX Bill+†+ [i]I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord; who was conceived by the holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Budge
What if ICthus isnt pretending and may be Catholic but with different viewpoints. I know a lot of Catholics IRL and they arent all in lockstep, even know a Catholic that believes in pretrib Rapture. Hey William when are you going to come visit on Catholic Reformation? I know you believed me which was good. I dont believe once a Catholic always a Catholic.. I am done even if they for some reason dont want to take me off the mailing lists..:b I would not be calling for priest in last moments but for Jesus and maybe my pastor:b
I gave a report to someone who was questioning your "credentials" and I gave the best ansswer from the top of my head about you.
Who is questioning me...are they researching me:b? KNow you have good intentions but I am out. I am sure they have drawn up the excommunication papers by now...Call me Christian..that is what I am. dUSt
Budge - one who rejects Christ has less of a chance to get into heaven than one who never knew Christ. Seems like common sense to me.
jrndveritatis
Isnt it PRIVATE INTERPETATION for someone on this board to determine whos a Catholic and whose not...
We need to distinguish what we mean when we say Catholic, because it can be used in different ways. It can mean: 1) Assenting Catholic: Someone who accepts the teachings of the Magisterium. 2) Dissenting Catholic: Someone who rejects one or more teachings of the Magisterium (whether they are a liberal or a schismatic traditionalist). Now both assenting Catholics and dissenting Catholics can be practicing or non-practicing. No matter what though, once you are baptized Catholic, you are always Catholic, no matter what teachings you reject or sins you commit. And so, it is NOT private interpretation to determine if someone is an assenting or dissenting Catholic. If someone openly rejects Church teaching they are a dissenting Catholic. And sometimes the word Catholic is used to mean assenting Catholic, and that is why dissenting or fallen-away Catholics are sometimes called (technically incorrectly) non-Catholic. At least that is what I believe the Church teaches on the matter.

As for your actions from the death bed, it will be the time the "rubber reaches the road" when the reality of deach approaches. But then I simply speculate, knowing of cases where ex-Catholics return to the faith at the last moment. Who was questioning you? I forget now, but it was no big deal. They simply wanted to know where you were coming from. And if you will once again, publish the link to your web site, we will all take a look... As for "pro-choice Christians," I almost consider that an oxymoron. I find it very difficult for any Christian to take the pro-choice position, including the moral cowardice of one John Kerry. "Excommunication papers" for you? Nah, the Church today takes that step only in extreme cases, and only in serious cases for obstinante clerics who are a great scandal to the Church and again, only after much pleading ane counciling of the individual. And so far, I see nothing in your case whereby I would cease to call you a Christian. In error? Sure, but as for the condition of your soul before God, only God can judge. As for purgatory, I will have a look, knowing you have seen my work on that subject already. Me, a "nice man"? I'm blushing..... God bless, PAX Bill+†+ [i]Give me that REAL old time religion! When you see "William Putnam," which has always been my "handle," you know it is ME! I have been on so many boards I forget their names, and having been banned from at least five of them, including being "disconnected" from the old pre-internet BBS's systems, my mind would have to be given a good clue to recall them. Do know what "Bluewave" is? If yes, you are an old timer! (It was a popular front -end piece of software that intercepted the packets of messages in the old system, using PKZIP to compress your outgoing messages, and decompress the incoming messages, all done in packets. "Fidonet" was the popular backbone that handled most of the Christian conferences I was envolved in, in those early times... Oik
I agree, once catholic, always catholic. If you reject the teachings and sin, you are still catholic. Diamonds are like Catholic Sacraments, forever.
