Paladin D
72 percent of Catholics say Communion sanctions improper http://www.catholic.org/cathcom/national_story.php?id=9695 I'm not suprised, many Catholics in the United States are stupid pro-abortion liberals. Bunch of flip-flops.
XIX
I can see where you can make a case that such sanctions aren't such a good idea, frankly. I don't think I'd give the Eucharist to Kerry if I was a priest and he came up. But it's really not 100% clear cut IMHO. A priest can't completely make a judgement on the soul of another person. But people don't respect the Real Presence enough as it is, so maybe this could help. I would also refrain from "stupid pro-abortion liberals" kind of talk. We as Catholics have to be careful to criticize the sin, not the sinner.
EcceNovaFacioOmni
My bishop is super-orthodox and doesn't support it.
FutureSoror
I think it is mainly because the last couple generations of Catholics have been poorly edjucated in the Faith.
Philippe
i dont agree, wat if kerry went to confession right before Mass
Laudate_Dominum
maybe the polling was "selective", if you know what I mean. hopefully.
Fides_et_Ratio
I'd bet the polling was selective. I don't remember getting polled (lol), and I don't remember hearing about it either... and I float around between a few different parishes. Ash Wednesday
Anywhere between 60 and 70 percent of Catholics ALSO do NOT believe in the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. These same Catholics that object to sanctions probably don't believe it's the actual body and blood of Christ, either. To many Catholics nowdays, "communion" is a wishy washy notion of "people getting together, no matter what church they believe in, coz HEY! We all believe in Jesus! So it's no big deal if my Episcopal or Lutheran friends go up and receive with me!" So keeping that in mind, I'm angered by this, but not surprised. 45 years ago, any politician supporting abortion would NOT have gotten communion, no questions asked. It is NOT a matter of judging the state of Kerry's soul. It's a matter of PUBLIC SCANDAL. What part of this don't people understand?! Eucharist is an HONOR and PRIVILEGE, not a right.
socalscout
i dont agree, wat if kerry went to confession right before Mass
There is a whole thread devoted to that. I know, I started it. It is still a qustion that sits with me but I undestand it now.
MorphRC
Id say many are either ignorant, or dont have the capibility to make a choice, IE. feeling more for the abortionist than the life.
CreepyCrawler
what if they polled catholics who went to mass on a regular basis. i'll bet the numbers who said it was proper would be higher.
