God Conquers
ya, let's stay away from the faith-bashing here. This is a place for sober second thought and argument.
TempleofVesarius
listen steve life here on earth smells of elderberries... doesnt mean it isnt real thats the big problem with having a devine church here on earth. Humans by their nature are always making mistakes...thing is, for 2000 years, our mistakes HAVENT CHANGED WHAT WE BELIEVE THE TRUTH IS... thats where protestants differ. VeraMaria
whoa, whoa, people, slow down for a sec....while it's good to be honest and all, we shouldn't turn this into a "why I hate your beliefs" section. While I believe (maybe I should change it to KNOW) that the Roman Catholic Church is the Truth, that doesn't mean that we should turn this into a "why i think protestantism smells of elderberries" thread (*cough, cough Mc-Just†* ), and vice versa "*cough, cough skuba steve *). Or else I think the happy, happy phamily won't be that for very long  . Hey, just being honest!!! Vera Maria the peacemaker (the people who know me would probably get a laugh out of this.....i'm usually starting fights, not vice versa....) Hey, I meant that.

jasJis
I, for one, am getting tired of the nastiness from both sides. I was offended by the 'resistance is futile' tone and it is offensive to what the Church teaches. Resistance is never futile, we can resist ourselves to hell. We all have free will. What is offensive is saying that those who aren't Catholic are automatically resisting God. That's not properly recognizing what all baptized Christians recieved at baptism and thinking God isn't giving them graces. God calls us, He doesn't drag us. The Catechism tells us about sharing our faith in the Prologue: Whoever teaches must become "all things to all men" (1 Cor 9:22), to win everyone to Christ. . . . Above all, teachers must not imagine that a single kind of soul has been entrusted to them, and that consequently it is lawful to teach and form equally all the faithful in true piety with one and the same method! Let them realize that some are in Christ as newborn babes, others as adolescents, and still others as adults in full command of their powers. . . . Those who are called to the ministry of preaching must suit their words to the maturity and understanding of their hearers, as they hand on the teaching of the mysteries of faith and the rules of moral conduct. 18 Above all - Charity 25 To conclude this Prologue, it is fitting to recall this pastoral principle stated by the Roman Catechism: The whole concern of doctrine and its teaching must be directed to the love that never ends. Whether something is proposed for belief, for hope or for action, the love of our Lord must always be made accessible, so that anyone can see that all the works of perfect Christian virtue spring from love and have no other objective than to arrive at love. 19 Give nasty, you get nasty in return. vianney
I agree with Jas Jis that was an inappropriate thread that was started. Grow up and do you honestly think Jesus would of said that stuff.
Jake Huether
I think the thread was started in love... And it actually holds a bit of truth to it... I mean, according to the Catholic faith, those that die and make it to heave WILL be Catholic anyway. That is to say, when you are a Church Triumphant you are Catholic - you are a part of the Church, the Body of Christ. So really, resistance is a bit futile, seeing that in the end those in heaven are Catholic. Of couse, if you aren't Catholic, you probably won't believe this (or want to believe it). But Truth is absolute. It's just a fact. Whether or not the thread was started to flare up anger, or as simply a loving statement - it is interesting to "debate" (and that is the proper group it has been place in). vianney
If you think that only catholics will go to heaven i think you need to read your catechism a lil better. (And I dont mean the Baltimore one) Threads like this is what gives Catholics a bad name.

(And I dont mean the Baltimore one) Threads like this is what gives Catholics a bad name. Hehe... I never said only Catholics will go to heaven. Specifically what I said was that only Catholics are IN heaven. Don't be confused. When you are in heaven, you ARE Catholic. It doesn't matter if you die Protestant, Orthodox, Jewish, Bhudist, Athiest, et al. If God so consideres that you did not WANT to go to hell (i.e. had no mortal sin that was unrepented), and that you inDouche, in heart, sought to make it to Heaven, then no matter what you were, once you've been purified in Purgatory, as soon as you step foot past the Gates of Heaven, you are Church Triumphant. You are a part of the Cloud of Witnesses! You sing the Holy Holy when ever the Eucharist is Sacrificed at Mass (which is eternal and perpetual). You intercede on behalf of the Church Militant. YOU ARE CATHOLIC! Woowhoo! That is why it is futile. Because if you are a protestant, and die a protestant, yet do not meret hell - once you are in heaven you are no longer protestant! You are CATHOLIC (universal). You are a full fledged member of the Body of Christ! You know Truth! You are the Bride of Christ. You are Catholic! True - not only Catholics will go to heaven. True - Only Cathoics are in heaven. **Edited for clarity** - "Catholics" as in, not necessarily Catholic on earth, but once they are in Heaven. Hope that clears it up... skuba steve
I didn't bash your beliefs... i just stated my opinion.... What is this, a communist forum? to be honest, i don't want to be converted. No offence, but personally i think that the Roman Catholic Church kinda smells of elderberries. Just being honest. Did i say anything offensive? Or would offensive be something more along the lines of: Ya well I think Protestantism is a Desolate hall of ignorance. "Desolate" due to the fact that your churches contain just an ambo and a bible, oh and of course raging preachers who look more like they are mocking the gospel. For 1500 years before Luther came along everyone believed in the Catholic church, until Luther and those after him stripped the Church naked, replaced everything that is sacred for "Personal Interpretations" and "Rhetoric" towards the Catholic church and to talk about fruits, what fruits has Protestantism and "Sola Scriptura" grown? thousands of different churches that cannot agree with each other? Not to mention groups like the Branch davidians, seventh day adventists, Jehovah witnesses and the Ku Klux Klan!! Who all based their churches on the Bible!! Claiming to be lead by the Holy Spirit and also false prophets whose prophecies constantly go wrong? Please the Catholic church was built on rock. Protestantism was built on Man's doubts and ignorance, in other words SAND which can be easily be washed away when storms come along. Funnily... I'm not offended... Maybe you could start somewhere around 1cor 13.
