Paladin D
I have absolutely no clue what the heck is going on in Chechnya, how did the war start? Who is right, who is wrong? What are they fighting for?
Iacobus
I have a little understanding of it. Chechnya is currently being ocupied by a Russian force. The Chechnyan want freedom and removal of Russian troops. Therefore they are resticieisting. Who is right? Not sure.
MorphRC
Chechyna use to be apart of the USSR, Muslims migrated there in the 17th and 18th centuries, islamized the area, then when the USSR fell, while many other countries, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine regained their soverignity as it was prior to Post-WW2, the Checynians tried the same, trying to get their own country, however a state of chechyna never existed prior to World War 2, as far as I know. And now Russia refuses to let that land go. There is much corruption in that war, you have Russian high class dealing arms with the chechynians for money, and back-stabbing in the soldiers, but at the sametime, some chechynians are back-stabbing their own cause for money and food. Its a really bad place, there are atleast 10-12 Mass murders in a month, thats according to a ex-navy man who went they're in 2001-2. Its really screwed up. Ellenita
There are alleged human rights abuses by Russian forces towards Chechnyans. The area must be rich in oil, minerals or food to harvest otherwise why would Russia want to hold onto it so much?
MorphRC
Russia is an extremely racist country. Many high ranking political figures belong to underground right wing groups. And the Russian opinion of Muslims and Jews, has never been very high. There was a documentary on SBS South Australia, a couple of weeks back that followed some ethnic groups around, moscow and parts near Chechyna. Russia is going the way of Nazi Germany. homeschoolmom
RussianGirl's home is near Chechnya. Russians are pretty racist overall. Ethnic Russians and Ukrainians typically dislike Georgians and Armenians-- let alone Jews and Muslims. You can look at Chechens as freedom fighters or rebels... depending on your perspective. [/quote] Imo. They are both terrorists and murderers. Chechynians are trying to take land that never belonged to them, kidnapping, beheading, and burning alive hostages. And the Russians are commiting mass murder.

CreepyCrawler
because of the muslim population, russia is trying to get sympathy by saying that chechnya is a hot-bed of terrorism, when really all they are trying to do is get their freedom back. in 92 (?) i believe, they did get their freedom, but then russia took them over again. that is wrong.
