Do You Have A Cable Modem?

This service is AWESOME!

This is going to save me over $400 a year... I thought those of you who have a cable modem would also like to be able to save some $$$.

This is also a great reason to get a cable modem.

I might have already posted something about this... but oh well... I've been using it for a while now and it's awesome.

Thanks IM - I'm seriously considering it. I have both a home and business phone at home, and IP would save tons of cash.

You've had no problems at all?

yup, we've got a cable modem...it is great because it prevents me from going through withdraw when I'm not on the LAN at college.

it doesn't cost us much more than it used to because we used to have a second phone line for the modem. getting rid of that line and getting the cable modem only makes it cost slightly more.

No problems at all...

It uses 50k of my bandwidth, only when in use.

I can have it forward to my cell if I wanted to, I can have the voicemails emailed to me, I can hear them from the phone, or online....

The features are great.....

Voicemail
Caller ID with Name
Call Waiting
Call Forwarding
3-Way Calling
Area Code Selection
Call Transfer
Click-2-Call
Call Return (*69)
Caller ID Block (*67)
Repeat Dialing
Ring Lists

If you wanted to, you could have a virtual phone number in another area code, and when people in that area call that number, it'll be a local call for them and you could be a thousand miles away.

We have both cable and DSL. Matthew works from home so if we have a storm and the cable is out, which tends to happen in our area fairly often, we have the DSL for backup. My computer is hooked up to the DSL and his is to the cable.

Please tell me you've got a router on each connection... With all the hackers and worms out there... yas got to have a router on the connections...lol

A cool thing with vonage is that if my cable is out, it will forward the call to my cell phone (or any number I want).

If you don't do much long distance, there's a $14/mo plan.

Yeah, we definately have routers and firewalls for both!

We do have a fair number of long distance calls each month because the majority of our family and friends (well, my closest friends, most of his friends live around here lol) are all out of state.

Vonage can save you a ton of money then... Also, you could get a virtual number where your mom lives for only $5 more a month, and when she calls you it will be a local call for her.

tying up the phone line is a good thing... it keeps me from unreasonable amounts of time on the computer. Well, it doesn't really, but it should... in theory...
