megamattman1
The traditional protestants are falling to people leaving their churches. The people either become no denomination or go to hip new age churches. And many of the protestants are left to either shut down or combine to have a substantial congregation; baptists, methodists etc are joining at times. And finally the number of protestants in the country is about to fall to below 50% for the first time ever in american history.
Justified Saint
That is pretty interesting. I read that article - watering down the gospel with "cool" novelties, that will do it.
ironman
We as Christians need to be strong in our faith. We as Catholics can't subscribe to Catholic light, it's definetely less filling, but tastes horrible. Any real Catholics right now cannot sit on the sidelines, this is not the time to bury our heads in the sand.
MC Just
prolly the one thing that will unite the church's in america is the coming persecution by Anti-christian liberals.
lifeteenchick527
ya i agree just....but another thing....for those protestants who are pro-life, they might come back to the church because they are defending Babies with us, so then they will want to learn more about Catholicism. Then they hopefully will see that the Catholic Church is the one true church!

Did anyone else read that book of essays written by female pastors of Protestant denominations who reconciled and became Catholic? Wish I could remember the title...anyway, most of them said the Church's solid stance on life issues was part of their conversion.

jrndveritatis
QUOTE (ironman @ Aug 26 2004, 12:54 AM) You guys do have to remember though....without the evangelicals, the last 30 years we would have fallen just like Europe.....Evangelicals have helped out a lot Please explain.
The evangelicals have helped enormously on the political front. They actually get out the vote and have formed effective political groups to fight abortion. Of couse they are using Catholic theology or at least following its lead. Only the Catholic Church has consistently stood up against contraception, abortion, euthanasia, sodomy, etc. in terms of doctrine. Without the Church's leadership in theology, the evangelicals would have been a bunch of small groups swept away with the mainline Protestants. So, they are following the doctrinal lead of the Catholic Church (on these life issues) and supplying political clout that Catholics have not. Heck, 50% of Catholics voted for Gore and probably will vote for the just as anti-Catholic-teaching John Kerry. At least the evangelicals vote in huge numbers for politicians who defend life. I don't know why the bishops and priests don't speak out more like evangelical leaders and point out that it is wrong to vote for abortion.
