BullnaChinaShop
If I'm following your argument you are saying that the media and politico's are attempting to define the family in as narrow of terms as possible so as to break this overlap that holds the greater "family" or community together. I agree with this assesment. If they can make it to where individuals do not have an adequate family to support them then they have to turn elsewhere. People without support groups are more easily manipulated than those that have famliy to turn to when times get tough.
Azriel
That's exactly what I'm saying! I'm also saying that by defining family so narrowly that they are holding us up to a standard of family that has truly never existed ... ie, Ward and June Cleaver. CreepyCrawler
when i think of family, i think of self-sacrifice, too. my mom has given up a lot to take care of us and the stuff that my sister and i do has an impact not only on our own lives, but on our family, as well. no one is a completely isolated individual and our actions affect others, so stuff that i want to do that will hurt my parents, i try not to do because i care about them... [/quote] Excellent. Thanks for joing the conversation. I think self sacrifice is a tremendous part of family. Do you think of your actions as they impact the "extended" family as well? That is the relationships that extend beyond your immediate family?
Cat Germ
I was thinking about it last night when my brother switched on the t.v. to watch this show called Family Guy, or something like that. What I noticed while watching that is that that family is nothing like our family or any other family I have ever seen. Aren't the parents the role models who are suppose to show their children how to make smart decisions, follow God, and love one another? This show was the exact opposite. Instead of the parents acting as the leaders and the rolemodels, they acted like they needed to learn alot about love, manners, God, family life... you name it, they did it wrong. Maybe that is what is suppose to be so funny about that show, I found it distastefull and sad myself. :mouse: Cat

Now I know that is really odd, but don't worry, four of them are adopted. After my Ma died, alot of poeple really pulled together and helped my family out. One family even adopted us. They just recently lost one of their children, but even through that Mom was really there for us. All of them where. The Three Parents that are still on this Earth have really pulled together to raise my family as close to God as possible. My Dad has done a marvelous job. They are all great! :mouse: Cat
