Notice that he was ordained in the Roman Catholic church, but he's now in one of those other 'catholic churches,' this one being the American catholic church. His bio page even says so.

He isn't a Roman Catholic priest. He left the Roman Catholic Church and is part of the 'American Catholic' church. I'm not sure what that is, but it shounds.... phishy!

He's for real if you want an "American Catholic" wedding, but not a bona fide Roman Catholic wedding recognized by the Catholic Church.

My guess that this is his affiliate: http://www.geocities.com/WestHollywood/4136/ or something like this http://www.accus.us

Q. Will the Roman Catholic Church recognize our marriage?
A. The answer depends on the circumstances of each couple. We do not, however, claim to satisfy the dictates of Roman Catholic canon law regarding validity of the Sacrament of marriage celebrated by Roman Catholics. It would be best to discuss this with me if it is a concern.

This man sounds almost exactly like one who married my brother and his wife. He told them that he "was ordained as a Catholic priest but is now married" and would marry them "according to the rites used in the Church."

Apparently my brother and wife did NOT know that this marriage and wedding was NOT recognized by the church. They weren't in a parish at the time and wanted their wedding outdoors. All priests they spoke to that were ROMAN Catholic insisted that it had to be in a church, and they found this "priest" guy. The whole thing in retrospect was very confusing.

My brother recently found this out from another parishioner through a ministry he is working in that their marriage was NOT recognized by the Church, and they were both shocked. They seriously didn't know. (I always thought that they knew, but didn't think it mattered.)

They have been considering getting it blessed in a church. Please pray that they do this.

These pseudo-Catholic priests need to make this VERY CLEAR -- that they DO NOT perform Church recognized weddings in themselves, and are part of a schismatic "American Catholic" group NOT in union with the Roman Catholic Church.

If I get married, I'm going to have a full-out Mass. Though it's done with the priest's blessing, to me it's hard to imagine my Catholic wedding without the Mass.

I see what is wrong now.. he isn't a licit priest anymore, because he revoked his vow of obedience.. doesn't that even mean he is not longer a priest a tall?

God bless,

Mikey

I dont think he is a priest anymore because i thought once a priest always a priest he would just be an illicit priest however.

Yeah, ordination is an indelible mark on the soul. Can't lose it.

Right, whether or not he is still a valid Roman Catholic priest, this is where I think a lot of people (like my brother) are going to get confused. I was even confused because I wondered "is he still a priest, that's why he told them it was according to Church rites? So maybe it *is* a valid Catholic wedding because some rule with his ordination made it licit?" Though now we know that wasn't the case, and one cannot be a valid Roman Catholic priest and then get married afterwards, therefore not being under Roman Catholic jurisdiction means not performing Roman Catholic recognized sacraments, like marriage.
In 1998, he left the Roman Catholic jurisdiction, married and joined the pastoral staff of Good Shepherd American Catholic Church in Lakewood
This is where it gets confusing. He's saying he was ordained in the Roman Catholic Church but he's left Roman Catholic "jurisdiction." So he is not explicitly stating he's no longer a valid "Roman Catholic priest" in fact maybe still goes by "Catholic priest" and people might think it's all good, his rites are good in the Roman Catholic Church, or makes no difference because they just want that "Catholic feeling" at their yacht wedding.

The average person in the public would probably not know the difference.

This is an exact carbon copy of what happened in my own family.

Ash Wednesday

And when I mean "Roman Catholic priest" I mean one that is following ordination, celibacy, performing sacraments recognized in the Roman Catholic Church.

Hope that makes sense....

I'm probably not making sense at all!!! :weep:
