megamattman1
What do you all think Catholics should think about welfare, financing for equal education, health care etc? I understand and we all agree that people who abuse those things should not recieve them, and that equality can be achieved without spending a lot. But it seems that a lot still think no government aid should be given at all, even for people who need help. I would just like all your takes on this. dUSt
yell oh one and all. I am here to ask about politics with the upcoming election at hand. I do have other questions regarding the history of the Catholic Church, but those are for a later day when I do some of my own research first. Why are so many Catholics here against welfare, financing for equal education, health care etc? I understand that people who abuse those things should not recieve them, and that equality can be achieved without spending a lot. But it seems that a lot still think no government aid should be given at all, even for people who need help. I would just like all your takes on this.
A lot of us believe that welfare would be better left up to religious organizations and charities, like it has always been handled in the past. It's not that we're against it, but rather, against the government determing how it should be run with our tax money. Keep in mind that the governments idea of wisely spending our tax money is to supply women with birth control, etc. Wouldn't we be better off using this money we give to the goverment and instead give it to organization like Catholic Charities to help support the less privileged? megamattman1
That's a good point. The money would be better with them instead of the government. I like the government giving charities money. Or just skipping the middleman and giving it directly. Unless the charities need government help. Cuz what about people who still aren't getting any aid and that need it? Maybe there's not a problem and I'm just uninformed. But it seems idealistic to think that charities will take care of things that need taken care of when they have yet to. I'd be willing to bet most of us here don't do our share aiding and participating in charities. I'm sure if we all did, we wouldn't need any other help. But to acknowledge our lack of action, and even if we were to be saints about it, to acknowledge humanities lack of action, isn't it imperative that people who need help get it, even if that means government aid?
