What Did Bush Say About Outsourcing Jobs?
I found this brief very interesting:

The major fault of NAFTA is the American people not buying American, and not calling the companies who talk about going overseas.

Many years ago when the "Buy American" ads were all over the news was when people should have listened.... People didn't care. People are to blame, not the companies, not the government. If people refused to buy foreign goods, then other businesses would stop leaving.

Outsourcing is different than companies leaving. Outsourcing is employing someone (or some company) to do the work outside of the company selling the product. Companies also outsource to other companies in the USA.

Anyone who has a pair of Nike shoes, Tommy Hilfiger shirts/jeans, etc... has no right to complain about companies leaving or tasks being outsourced... because it's our fault that it has gotten so bad.

From a Christian standpoint, it is good that the poor countries get a chance to work and have their industrial revolution. It comes down to how much of the big picture that we are looking at. Many of these developing countries are where we were in the early 1900's. As time moves on, they too will get child labor laws, fair wage acts, etc...

But back to outsourcing, the topic is that the liberal left, and kerry's crew are trying to say something about Bush that is not at all true.... which is typical. They have to lie about Bush to make themselves look good (if that's even possible).

God Bless,
This is here because it is an important topic. When are you going to realize that the rep party best represents the Catholic Church teachings, THAT is why there are more reps then dems on the board.
Neither side supports what the Church teaches. They both reject the Church certain ways... many Republicans ignore Rerum Novarum from Pope Leo XIII, Democrats ignore the Church's techings morally. They both ignore the ample condemnations of secularism and feminism of the Popes, most notably Pope Leo XIII. They are both condemned under the heresy of Liberalism, aka Modernism.

i read an interesting article in the wall street journal that showed that more jobs are outsourced from outside the U.S. INTO the U.S. than the other way around. yes, it smells of elderberries if you lose your job because your company is going outside the U.S. but if all countries just kept their jobs within their own countries, we'd lose a lot more jobs in the U.S. to that than we would to outsourcing.

And honestly, can you blame companies for outsourcing in the first place? With a society that demands cheaper and cheaper goods without thinking how and where they are made as long as a profit is being had and stock is going up, why WOULDN'T a company outsource? The consumer has a lot of power, but the majority of consumers don't care. It's sad.

I'm really confused about all this. Back in the 70's, we started importing Japanese cars because American manufacturers would not and then could not, produce a quality small car for a competitive price. What's wrong with the consumer's wanting a car that cost less than $6,000 (a ton back then) that got more than 12 miles per gallon. Only Toyota and Datsun and Honda made cheap small cars that weren't total junk. Does anyone know what an AMC Gremlin is? Who remembers the Ford Pinto?

Consumers now adays want incredible luxury and don't want to have to work for it. It was luxury to have power windows and AC, much less have electric seats, FM/Cassette radios (no CD's). Now, you expect a CD with all power in a basci Huyndai. People also aren't willing to do any "low paying" jobs. I'm in construction, and can't find people willing to start at $10 an hour with the opportunity to be making $20+ in a few years. I hired an 18 year old who begged me for the job at $9. He never made more than $7.5 in his life and he quit the next day because it was "too hard". When I was unemployed a few months ago, I worked twice as hard, for $10, and I'm more than twice his age and had been doing office work for the last 15+ years.

People don't want to do low pay jobs because they want prestiege and 'bling'. Young people rarely want to work for it. And excuse me, going to college for 4-6 years isn't the same as job experience or work ethic. You earned a degree reflecting knowledge. That degree has little to do with your abilty and nothing at all with your experience in actually performing the job. I've fired many a college grad that couldn't handle the responsibility of being a ditch digger, but they believe they should be in an office somewhere making $45K a year and never consider what value they offer to a company for that kind of pay. If a company pays you $40 grand, you should be earning them close to $80 grand to pay for your pay, employer payroll taxes, the office space and overhead the company has to provide (like the HR person, payroll person, etc., etc.) and still the company might profit only a few percentage off you. Have you ever made a mistake that cost the company money? How about when a co-worker makes a mistake?

The economics are close when it comes to outsourcing jobs. It's hugely expensive to train and manage people halfway accross the world. Do you thing airports, roads, and office building in India are just like Clevelands? What do you think it really costs to have a sophisticated phone system installed in India? Do they have Circuit Citys or Best Buys there where it's common for people to pick up LCD monitors for their personal computer in the extra den at home? If somebody told his next door neighboor in INdia that he only had one 19" color TV, with remote and a VCR and basic cable, they wouldn't think they were poor. In the US, we've got people feeling sorry for somebody who shared that with us and we'd think they're incredibly poor.
First, I don't know what this is doing here.  This couldn't be more remote from Catholicism if it tried to be.

That's right! Character, morals and integrity have no part in the Catholic Church! We've got to stop people from thinking that issues dealing with morality should be discussed on this board!
But I suppose it's all a part of the Republican takeover of Phatmass.
I'm afraid you've got it backwards: it's the Republican's support of morality that has caused Catholics to become Republican; not the Republicans 'taking over' the Church, nor Phatmass. 40 years ago, the Democrats were the party of choice for nearly all Catholics, but since then the Republicans have ceased their anti-Catholic stances, and have come in line with all *required* Church stances. Unfortunately, there's still room for improvement.

GF, think about the whole issue before you complain that someone's off-topic.

Peace,
Joe :)
