Lil Red
i'm confused. is it because of some unknown factor, or is it because it allows those women to be more promiscious, or what?
Ash Wednesday
I don't think they have figured that out... I've always believed that the pill and other methods that use hormones really screw up your body. I take thyroid medication and the last thing I would be interested in would be the pill or some other foreign crud injected into my behind. marielapin
One of my old coworkers and his wife were trying really hard to conceive, but kept losing their babies. I was talking to him one day and something about birth control came up and it turns out they used the pill I think for about ten years straight. I'm sorry but that sent up a flag right there. I think its dispicable what the doctors don't tell you. This couple is now in anguish that they can't conceive and yet they most likely could have prevented this by not being on the pill. marielapin
Jared and I were reading the paper the other day when we found an article about how the world population is shrinking. Apparantly in 2050, Europe's population is going to be the same size it was in the 1950's after catastrophic casualties due to WWII. And also in 2040 or 2050, Japan is going to drop its current population by 20%. This all has to come to a head soon. We are killing ourselves in the name of bigger houses, vacations, and Hummers.
that is so sad! here's the thing that gets me. we take a pill for everything! we take a pill to not get pregnant. then we take a pill trying to get pregnant. a little for this, a little for that. no wonder we're getting so many more allergies, diseases, etc. we're always looking for the "quick fix" instead of actually eating right, exercising, being more natural. sorry, slightly off topic, but still! marielapin
that is so sad!  here's the thing that gets me. we take a pill for everything! we take a pill to not get pregnant. then we take a pill trying to get pregnant. a little for this, a little for that. no wonder we're getting so many more allergies, diseases, etc. we're always looking for the "quick fix" instead of actually eating right, exercising, being more natural. sorry, slightly off topic, but still!
my OLD ob/gyn was a pill popper. Unfortunatly I didn't realize this until after Dominic was born. I never posted this on Open Mic, but the worst part about my labor and delivery was by far the recovery. My doctor gave me much needed medication during labor because my blood pressure skyrocketed. The problems came later after he was born when I started exhibiting really messed up symptoms like nausea, extreme muscle weakness (I would hardly walk to the bathroom without help), nervous exhaustion, etc. I hadn't slept more than 4 or 5 hours in three days either. I was so exhausted that I was seeing inanimate objects move on their own. My nerves felt so raw, like I had just gone through some type of large electric shock. And to top it off, I was so nauseous I couldn't go to sleep. Ok so this scared the carp out of me. I tell the nurses and they are really worried about me too, but don't know what is wrong. I tell them I need to sleep but can't. I tell my doctor these symptoms, and what does she do? I'm not 24 hours out of childbirth, haven't slept and she wants to prescribe me an anti-depressant. One that is not recommended during breastfeeding. She knows I am breast feeding. Then she has the gall to say that its ok cause she takes it when she is having PMS. I'm like WHAT? This medication is so strong that you have to WEAN yourself off of it over the course of four months. So I tell my doctor that I'm not depressed and that I need to sleep. She finally gives me some anti-nausea medication. In just six hours, in which I actually sleep, I'm miraculosly cured its seems to the nurses. I'm walking around the maternity ward, etc. Its a miracle apparantly. I was so pissed. I still am. When we got home and looked up the side effects of my blood pressure medication, I had EVERY ONE of them with the exception of vomiting. And my doctor tried to give me a strong anti-depressant right there on the spot when I told her I had not slept. She should have known the side effects of her own medicine! She knew I was trying to breastfeed and yet insisted it was okay even though the medicine pamplet itself says not to. So, now I have a different doctor who seems concerned not to overmedicate me, thank the Lord. Now the only pill I am taking is a prenatal vitamin. You really have to watch out for doctors. Just because they have a degree doesn't mean they are smart. Sometimes I wonder if they are just pawns of the pharmaceutical companies.

Carrie
Sometimes I wonder if they are just pawns of the pharmaceutical companies.
Many of them are. I used to work for a doctor who would choose prescriptions based on the kinds of rewards he received. For example, if one pharmaceutical company offered an end-of-the-year bonus check for X amount of prescriptions written, he'd prescribe that one more than any other so that he could get the reward. It made me sick to my stomach.
